View Full Version : Klay Thompson's camp upset that the max hasn't been offered yet by GSW

Hey Yo

"Klay Thompson's camp is frustrated that the Golden State Warriors haven't offered a maximum contract in their ongoing extension talks with Friday's deadline nearing, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Thompson is seeking a maximum deal paying upward of $15 million per season, a source said. The Warriors have improved their offer to get in the vicinity but have not offered a full maximum contract, sources said.

If Thompson and the Warriors do not come to terms on an extension by the Halloween deadline, he will be a restricted free agent next summer.

Warriors owner Joe Lacob has yet to become comfortable offering a maximum extension, sources said. A source close to Thompson said any offer shy of a max would be "absurd" considering his improvement and the influx of money to come to NBA teams from the next television contract.

"As far as contract stuff, I try not to worry about it, because then it will affect your game," Thompson told reporters on Friday. "I'll just go out there and do what I do, and I know it will take care of itself."

If Lakers offer max do the Warriors match? Probably. Might as well offer him the max Warriors, you'll pay it regardless. This way you don't piss him off for a season or two.

Hope you're not trying to say Klay is just a spot-up shooter. He's an incredible man defender and getting better at creating/putting the ball on the floor.

yep. probably. Warrs are handling this the right way. Klay gonna get his money one way or another but the dubs aint gonna give it to him early unless he gives them a reason...like lowering his max demands.

He should be getting a max offer considering the financials of the league the next two years with the new TV money.

PJR
10-25-2014, 06:38 PM
The Warriors are retarded because once the new TV money comes in that contract will be a low end max deal.

If I'm his agent, I'm threatening signing the qualifying offer next summer.

For the Hawks he would be.
Korver and Thompson on the perimeter.
He can come to Atlanta for the max.

Wouldn't be the first time for the Warriors - see what they did with RunTMC.

Incredible is a bit of a stretch he isn't even the best perimeter defender on his own team.

He is a good on the ball defender and an exceptional spot up shooter.

He can't create his own shot and can't create for others. He is a great piece on a good team that suits him but he is in no way a max player.

One thing that I don't think has been mentioned yet is that if Klay signs a max offer sheet with another squad next summer and the Warriors then match, the annual raises are only 4.5% instead of 7.5% and for one less year than if he were to get a max offer from the Warriors right now.

Because he wants the max (and seems likely for him to get one next summer), it's possible that him signing an offer sheet first makes more financial sense for the Warriors.

Let's say Klay becomes a UNRes FA. We all know Kevin Love is gonna hate playing with the Cavs... Will the Warriors let Klay go (Lakers :dancin :dancin  ) to sign Love to a max? They have to amnesty Lee right?

If he starts hot they'll offer it to him. If not, hell, I imagine teams will be lining up to offer it after the season anyway.

He's not a max player. Curry didn't get max. Iggy didn't get max.

edit: Make someone else offer him the max in RFA.

GSW will look like fools if they let him walk without getting anything in return, especially considering they could have traded him for kevin love a few months ago.

We won't let him walk. We'll just make someone else offer him the max in RFA, then match. At $15m per year he might find his ass getting traded shortly after that though (or S/T).

Trading Richmond wasn't about money, it was about Nelly and his dumb small ball philosophy. Which blew the **** up in his face cause Billy Owens never measured up and C-Webb didn't want any part of his system.

This is precisely why he won't be walking. They will likely let others give him the max but once that happens they will match it. No way do they let him walk after refusing to trade him for Kevin Love.

This is Gordon Hayward all over again. Golden State might as well as him the max because we know there's no way they'd lose him for nothing next year. they got an absolute steal with Curry. They can use those savings to pay Klay

Klay got to keep his gold digger girlfriend happy.

Anyhow, as someone else said, GSW will wait for him to sign an offer sheet then match it. They will save money that way.

He's better than Parsons, or Haywood. If the GSW let him become a free agent, some other team will likely offer the max. If they're okay with losing him, then they should've traded him when Love was available.

He is no longer just a spot up shooter. He can get to tge paint and draw fouls, he can post up his mid range is great. And hes emerging as an elite defender. He deserves a max contract

He deserves the max. The dude is 24 and getting better every year..you also have to factor in what he could be, and not look exclusively at what he is right now.

This..people act like they'd be paying the max to a glorified spot up shooter..

As if players can't/don't improve dramatically from age 24 to 29 :oldlol:

You are right in that he is getting better, but is not an elite defender at all. Above average? sure but not even close to elite. Max players should be ones that can carry a team and Klay isn't that type of player.

This. Thompson mostly looks good on D because Curry is so weak on the defensive end. Igoudala is elite, Klay above average but certainly not at max level.

This kid has a PER below the league average:roll:  Say what you want about PER but most all-stars have a PER around 20. He is not even an all-star and he wants max money:roll:

I really hope Golden State doesn't do that. would be lucky to get 12 million a year.

This

Klay should try to break 15m PER first before asking for a max. He is a solid role player who is severely overrated on the defensive side.
