Why do people watch women's tennis?

It is a paradox, people dislike women's sports because they cannot compete on equal term's with men (We do not watch women's soccer/basketball etc). But Women's tennis is popular and are on parity with men.

Maria Sharapova, Li Na and Serena Williams earned 22,18 and 11 million respectively in 2014. That's more than most NBA players.

Women's soccer does terrible in Europe and is viewed in the same way as WNBA in the US. It can be absolutely cringe worthy to watch.

I really believe it's one of the few sports where the lesser athleticism produces a better product. There's just way more volley in the women's game. The men's game is way to many aces and three volley points. If they lowered the rim in basketball to 9 feet for both men and women, there might be a similar effect.

Aesthetics obviously. I'd still rather watch men's tennis, though. But for something like figure skating I'd rather watch Women's even though they're probably much worse than the Men.

2011 Women's cup had highest soccer ratings in US, ever, until this past World Cup. WWC from late 90s through 2000s spurned the formation of their whole league.
