i wouldnt exactly call this a "sign of the times", same thing would have happened 20 years ago. texans arent going to stand watching while some young redneck assaults an old man in public.

There was one man in a hat who could have been from anywhere, it's an airport lol

Anyway, thread title reminds me of an experiment that was done in both Texas and NYC where a staged gay couple goes into a restaurant and a fake waiter acts as though he has a problem with the gay couple. The surrounding Texans in the restaurant were very quick to call out the waiter, in NYC no one gave a shit about a waiter who was gay bashing.

20 years ago, a gay person on the other end of this probably would have had to leave the area and fast.

Texans in cowboy hats have always been gay. Major oversight.

No they wouldnt have. Clearly you have never been to Texas if you actually think that.

Maybe if this happened at a bar in a small town, people would not have rushed to his defense as quickly. We are talking about a goddamn international airport in one of the largest cities in the country.

Yep, it's the 4th largest airport in the US, and an extremely busy airport as Dallas in the middle of the two coasts and a perfect destination for cross over flights.

funny that a new yorker would say these things about texans considering the bystander effect (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect) is probably stronger in new york than any other city in this country :oldlol:

I think movement on gay rights has had more movement on the middle rather than the margins in the last ten years than any other time.

Maybe it's not sign of changing times, but I have been to Fort Worth twice. Fredericksburg once and Austin twice.

Even got to Taylor and had a nice talk with Vencil at the Taylor Cafe

Turns out he taught the guy who catered my wedding every he knows about BBQ.

Now that I think about it, I spent a nice night in Luckenbach too after taking the wrong road.

And you witnessed gay bashing while you visited?

Austin is one of the most liberal cities in the whole country...Dallas has been "blue" for a while now too. Not that "blue and red" are a good way to judge how much hate crime goes on...

there you go Kev...this would include racism and gay bashing. Texas isn't composed of all Klan members like you think.

ha.

white guy shoots black guy = auto hate crime*
black guy shoots white guy = not a hate crime.

*except in Texas due to clan members running justice system.

Good fact based post. For Texas, it would include both, but otherwise it depends on the laws of the state. Not all states have hate crime protection against gays, so they don't have to collect data.

I never did say nor did imply Texas = Klan. And that was kind of the point of the thread.

He was laying on the ground right behind the guy being held down. He gets up only after the attacker is restrained.

At about 2 mins in, you can seem lying in the fetal postion, it looked like the guy kicked him in the groin.

Alright, so the guy in the pink polo shirt - the one who ends up in the wheelchair - I'm hoping that wasn't the sound of his ankle breaking at 1:21. There's a lot of things happening so the crunch could have been anything, but that sound does seem to coincide with his ankle getting pinned beneath the scuffle.

can't go around assaulting people .. but little man wasn't very smart either.. why did he walk over to the guy and start egging him on after fat boy walked away ? .. looks like the guy had forgotten him and turned his attention to the cowboy .. he might've ended up attacking cowboy, who knows .. but why walk back up to the guy and try to get his attention and antagonize him some more ? .. about as dumb as fat boy attacking him

:oldlol: That kick to the nuts...that guy was tiny and instead of throwing a punch that guy goes for the low blow? Damn...watch a bitch.
