All from their MVP year
PG: Cousey
SG: Iverson
SF: Durant
PF/C Wes Unseld
C: Willis Reed
Assume the bench is average across the board and the old guys get modern shoes to play with
So would these guys win the title?

Just on paper, and based on talent... **** yea, definitely, without a doubt! Is that even a question?
Can't tell how they would play as a team though, and the on/off-court chemistry, but the talent would probably still be enough to get them all the way.
Would this team of former MVPs?
Magic
Jordan
Bird
Duncan
Kareem
Assume their bench is average former MVPs across the board.

What kinda question is this? Assuming a couple of them are willing to be role players that can morph into MVP mode every now and then, why the hell wouldn't they win it all :facepalm
Without ever watching these 2, I think Cousy and Reed could become those.
Not sure about the defense in the backcourt though, but Durant and Iverson could outscore entire teams with Cousy getting them the ball.

I honestly think they wouldn't be a lock as I don't see Iverson and KD playing well together and I see Cousey as big liability in the modern game. Also, despite being very strong and beast rebounders, their bigs are pretty undersized.
I could see the current elite teams having success against this team.
Do you mean in their prime? of course...you take the ball-handling duties away from Iverson and let him focus on coming off screens and scoring...They're weak in the back court defensively but very good up front defensively...They can score at every position and they'd probably be first in the league in rebounding which means they get the rebound and outlet to Cousy/Iverson/Durant...

Id have to put AI at the point with Durant as the primary scorer....
Ai isnt my ideal point but I cant have an unathletic point who learned the game in the 40s playing some of these guys out now.
This isnt Steve Nash we are talking about. bob Cousy could shoot 25% for a month and nobody would bat an eye. And he did in on teams scoring 110-125 a game. That many looks...that many fast breaks...you still shoot 32-35% in your prime? Playoff runs in the 20s?
I cant work with it. Passing and a mind for the game have no era....but he would be too easily exploited. He said himself he wasnt a willing defender. Too many issues.
Let him back up AI.
See where it goes.
Reed would slaughter most bigmen out though. Im sure of that.

Reed was nice as ****.
Super-skilled big that could create his own shot and score ON defenders with shooting touch, size and feetwork.
It would be a breeze for him in today's game where he just has to finish plays - he wouldn't need all that skill.
Just like the easier brand of basketball in today's game has helped Duncan play longer at a high level, today's game would be easier for Reed too.... After all, the offense doesn't run through bigs anymore in today's game and other than the PG, guys in general are not required to make a move and score ON their man like previous eras, when that was the standard - so Duncan doesn't have to catch it on the post and playmake for himself or a teammate anymore, he only has to finish plays that result from ball-movement.
The 3-point shooting and defensive 3 seconds have created so much space on the court, that the effectiveness of ball movement has increased - ball movement is now EXPECTED to generate an open shot on every possession - accordingly, guys like Duncan can hang around and play more years than they could have back in the day, because all he has to do nowadays is finish open shots created by the ball movement and the spacing... or like i said, finish plays.
btw, just for the record, i don't think they should outlaw the 3 point shot - absolutely not... but they should get rid of defensive 3 seconds... that just makes the spacing ridiculous and makes the game look staged and almost fake, with weird defenisve schemes needed to offset the rule... it's not natural-looking, organic and free-flowing game like before... the 80's was the purest form of the game.
