Randle suffered a fractured tibia in his right leg midway through the fourth quarter of the Lakers

The 19-year-old Randle was injured when he collided with two Houston players under the Lakers' basket midway through the final period. He was in obvious pain as the Lakers' medical staff tended to him, eventually immobilizing his leg while Kobe Bryant gripped his hand in support.

I think we need to bring Metta back so we can really play some "smashmouth" basketball. When we had metta he was not too good guarding 1,2,3 but pretty good with opposing 4's. Still has some value I would think.

I bet he will be back in time for the playoffs this year.

Randle will have a screw replaced in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot, a remnant from a previous surgery after a high school injury.

The 6-foot-9 power forward from Kentucky is already out for the season after breaking his right leg on opening night in October.

The surgery will be performed at Cedars-Sinai Orthopaedic Center by Dr. David Thordarson.

Randle was drafted by the Lakers with the seventh overall pick in June.

Reports before the draft that Randle would eventually need foot surgery might have helped him fall to the Lakers.

The Lakers said they expect Randle to fully recover from both injuries.

Turns out that those draft day rumors were not that far from reality. Hope he recovers fully.

might as well do it now since he's out for the season anyway, i just hope he's 100% before next training camp

I agree. Whatever he has to do to be good for next season then just get it done and over with now.

These foot and leg injuries at such a young age is pretty concerning. He wasn't healthy in the beg of summer camp and he barely played before he was injured. I hope he can get his body right bc Lakers desperately need him to be 100%, esp if we miss out on a pick

Hopefully this situation turned out like a Blake Griffin 2.0 Where due to injury they were out all season but then return the next season as stronger players.

Randle has been cleared to resume on court "no contact" activities and will begin traveling with the team to be near the training staff during this stage of his rehab

Thanks for the update. I would like to know if the Lakers plan to get him a personal tutor to work on his game. It's such a huge setback for him and the Lakers when he got injured right on the first game, I mean if he is playing right now, he would have been really contributing next season. Experience factor is irreplaceable but having a personal trainer would help.

Does next year count as his rookie year? He played for about 5 minutes

The Lakers cleared Randle last week to rehab his leg in weight-bearing exercises. He also has completed light shooting sessions. Scott said Randle also will travel with the Lakers next week, including stops in Oklahoma City (March 24), Minnesota (March 25), Toronto (March 27), Brooklyn (March 29) and Philadelphia (March 30).

Decent read with somewhat of an update of his rehab.

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak set about ensuring Randle, 20, was engaged mentally by assigning the rookie to write up reports about Lakers games. Randle would break down the game quarter by quarter, detailing what the Lakers did right or wrong, dissecting the opponent's game plan and focusing especially on matchups at Randle's power forward position.

He seems like he has a good head on his shoulders and is soaking in as much knowledge as possible. Giving credit to Kobe and taking on these assignments. I like that he wants to learn the game even when he couldn't play
