Kevin Durant

26 years old

Consensus top 30-40 Player all time

LeBron James

Age 29

Consensus top 10 player all time

Why such a huge gap between their rankings when there's only a 3 year age difference? Please provide an explanation. And where do you see Durant's ranking in 3 years?

Two years can make a huge difference.

Post 2011 Finals, LeBron wasn't even considered a top 50 all time player.

Back to back rings and now he's certified top 15 and climbing.

If Durant wins back to back rings then what? He'll be a year younger than LBJ is now but with the same amount of rings.

It's closer to 4 years than it is to 3.

Durant is a baby compared to old man Bron, and is already the better player.

Led the league in PER, WS, and won the MVP.

Honestly, because player rankings are generally ****ing stupid. Everyone bases this shit purely on ring count, and what area you are in. Realistically, there aren't 20 players I'd take over Durant. He's that good. Durant could play nearly the same as he did last year, and put a competent coach behind him, and he could have a ring.

Evidently, Kevin Durant has become underrated then.

When I fast forward five years from now and where I expect Kevin Durant to be in his career: 2-3 MVP's, 6-7 scoring titles, 10 All NBA first team selections and a couple of championships.

If he does that and continues to average nearly 30 points a game with his elite efficiency, then he will easily be a top 10 or 15 player all time. Time will tell.

Then by that logic, if Durant were healthy and won the MVP this year while losing in the Finals he would also be in that echelon. Afterall, this would be the LeBron-Durant matchup after 8 years in the NBA

NBA Finals
LeBron 0-2
Durant 0-2

MVP's
LeBron 2
Durant 2

Scoring titles
LeBron 1
Durant 5

All NBA 1st team
LeBron 5
Durant 6

All Star
LeBron 7
Durant 6

Other than the the fact LeBron put up MUCH better stats than Durant his first 7 years, and had the same postseason success with a severely inferior cast, yes you are correct :facepalm

First 7 NBA Seasons:
LeBron- 15,251 Points, 3,810 Assists, 3,861 Rebounds.
Durant- 14,851 Points, 1,882 Assists, 3,751 Rebounds

Much better stats + 1 more MVP + same success with a much much worse team >>>>>>>

LeBron never played with as good as player as Russell Westbrook in his first 7 years with Cleveland, not even James Harden or maybe even Ibaka

KD has had to share his touches with a ballhog, Lebron played on a Cleveland team with no other go-to scorer, but he's had less competition in the Eastern Conference Playoffs than KD in the West (facing Spurs in WCF, team that completely destroyed Miami, was an OT away from a Game 7 vs OKC). You need to take that into account. And KD didn't develop his passing until like 2 seasons ago.

Lebron was a much better player coming into the league. KD was just a good scorer with no real playmaking abilities. He's improved both.

So your saying LeBron had no other go to scorer and still had the same team success as Durant ?

Because he played in a weaker Conference. He still had a decent team(great defenders and decent 3pt shooters), but he didn't have a fellow superstar that also dominated the ball. Russ takes shots away from KD. OKC isn't a balanced team like Cleveland was.

Lebron would have never made the Finals if he played in the West(if the same Cleveland teams played in the WC during those years). You saw how easily the Spurs could shut them down.

KD would have made his 2nd Finals and it would have been a close series, but he had to go through the team that swept Miami. Was an OT and a Game 7 away.. East just isn't that great. Last year's EC Playoffs were a joke.

Lebron is the better player right now.

But in reality, his style is more suboptimal than Durant's, so I think (quite certain actually) that once Durant has a team that can win a championship, he will have better success staying on top.

What's the suboptimal nature of Lebron's game???

We know already - ball-dominance... Durant dominated the ball 28% less last year, but only got 13% less assists (5.5 to 6.3)...

Team injuries have prevented Durant from reaching the mountain top in recent years, but his more optimal style of play won't be held down forever... :confusedshrug:

So we're going to use the 'LeBron was a better player' argument when Durant had 1 year of college and LeBron had to come straight out of HS? :facepalm

If LeBron spent one year in college and came in the NBA his first 7 years stats would be even better than it is now widening the gap between him and Durant further
