View Full Version : How far can you throw a football?

The most I've ever thrown a football was about 58-60 yards. I can't throw far but people who I've played pick up games with say I throw way too hard on 15-30 yard passes. Never played organized football though.

If you could really throw a full size football 60 yards I would be very impressed.

I snapped my shoulder in half when I was a teen, so my range of motion is horrible and I can barely throw a standard ball 30 yards without pain. I look like an idiot throwing.

But I love(d) playing DB anyways

I mean a lot of it is mechanics. Once I figured out how to throw a spiral consistently, it added at least 5 yards. I throw fastballs but not like hail mary passes, just don't have the strength or size to do that (only about 5'9''-5'10'' and 160)

I all honesty I've thrown on a real football field and I was able to get like 40 yards at most. It's hard to consistently throw long balls. Arm gets tired.

any college qb can throw it far without any pressure :confusedshrug:

in a legit game, its a complete different situation

So everyone in here can throw it 60-70 yards?

That means you guys could beat Aaron Rodgers in a distance competition. You guys can out throw Superbowl mvps?

I'm not buying it, at all.

honestly I can throw it 50 yards when building up and releasing. I think that's what the OP was asking. Aaron Rodgers scrambles out of the pocket and flicks it 50 yards. Very different situation

I have no clue, but I'm curious to know. It's getting cold, but it'd be fun to get to a field and give it a shot. Spoiler alert: it's going to be awful.

I forgot what a standard distance is for someone who's terrible at throwing a football. Even non-quarterback football guys, those who played on teams and were always around the game, could likely eclipse 30 yards pretty easily, right? I feel like I'd be proud to hit 30 with a standard sized football. Or is that short-changing it?

I can throw 55-60 only without pads. I doubt I can even surface 55 with it tbh.

The best of the best is generally 80-90 yds, one even hit 99 before

Like 45 yards or so. I'd that's fairly average. A friend of mine can throw it about 60 and which was farther than anyone else at our high school except for the maybe 1 or 2 of the QBs.

I was looking for video of Jamarcus Russell throwing 70 yards from his knees and stumbled upon this. Funny hearing Tony talk shit about McNair considering that he's dead now. I'd guess it's from 06

I throw 45 to 50 yards depending on the size of the pigskin. The college ones feel bigger than the NFL balls and a lot harder to throw.

Ok found it.

Last time I threw the NFL/NCAA it didn't go very far, I would say around 40-45 yards.

The Junior size, which everyone throws around for fun in the backyard, non-competition ball, 45-50 yards.

You need to hit the gym more. You lack arm power. I suggest you start eating more and putting on more size. It will help you become stronger. Good luck.

Furthest I've thrown is around 75 yards with one hell of a wind up/run up. Don't throw the pigskin much but I just have a real powerful arm.

19 yards. No need for the long game. Short, steady, make it last as long as possible. Tire that defense out.

NFL ball maybe around 40 and 50 yards the absolute max. I have an above average arm as well and have one of the better arms when playing flag football with people that regularly play.

Google Duckenmiller. That guy had a crazy arm, there were rumors he could throw 90+ yards.
Boller had a ridiculous arm probably a notch above Stafford in terms of pure arm strength.

heck youtube stafford high school highlights, his arm was super strong for a teenager.
