View Full Version : Didn't Durant make James Harden worse?

When playing with Durant, Harden was a 16 ppg scorer

Just 4 months later Harden drops 40+ in his debut for Houston, and goes on to average 26 a night and became a legit MVP candidate

Why couldn't he flourish under Durant?

Durant didn't suppress Harden's style of game like Lebron. Harden was still the same player but got more usage in Houston as #1 option.

Bosh under Lebron was shackled into becoming a bail out spot up shooter for Lebron. This year he looks a far more confident player, playing to more of his strengths and obviously flourishing with more usage and allowing to lead the team.

Next.

nope different story

harden was super young with okc and was just growing as a player, and his breakout season coincided with his departure from okc to houston. he was nothing before durant.

the difference is that bosh was already a star franchise player before lebron, and THEN became a lesser player because of lebron holding him back. and then again went back to being a star franchise player when lebron left

these are different situations, sorry

Change of role, it happens. The same for Bosh. Not sure what's the point everyone argue about.

then give me 1-2 month practicing the FT and i will make the 7-8/10 also.

Players don't suppress other players. LeBron didn't make Bosh the 3rd option. The Heat coaching staff did. KD didn't make Harden come off the bench. The OKC coaching staff needed him to come off the bench. You idiots give these players wayyyyy too much credit and wayyyyy too much blame.

Harden Litteraly got better every season under Durant

Durant molded Harden into the player he is now offensively. Scott Brooks limited Hardons role not like Bran limited Boshs. Spo, Bosh and Wade wanted Bosh to do more but they were chained down

I won't lie, I find it really weird that you would compare a situation where Bosh's production got worse every year, to a situation where Harden's production increased every year in OKC

In Harden's last year in OKC, he shot 49 percent from the field with a 66 TS percentage.

He hasn't come close to touching those numbers in Houston.

I won't lie, I find it really weird that you would compare a situation where Harden came into the league as a rookie and developed every year to a situation where Bosh went from 1st option to 3rd.

But I wasn't the one comparing them. Op was. So I don't really understand what you're getting at

That's because he is a chucker now without better player keep him in check. With out free throws dude is a 5/15 type bricky ball hog every so often.

No.

Durant and Westbrook were 1 and 2 and got most of the touches/shots. Harden still got to play his game, just in a smaller role off the pine, as well as taking some down-the-stretch pressure off Durant/WB.

LeBron/Wade and Bosh on the other hand, required one of the three to really change the way they played to make the team work. Obviously Bosh was chosen for that, as he was the lesser player of the 3. Now that LeBron is gone and Wade's knees are nearly imploding, Bosh is able to be the focal point of Miami's offense. He can play his game now without having to change it to fit the team. The Bosh we see now is the real Bosh, instead of the jump shooting, screen setting decoy designed to pull attention away from LeBron/Wade we saw in the Big 3 era. I'd much rather LeBron play his game and Bosh step back than vice versa, as LeBron was and is clearly the superior player.

Nah bro, Harden is way better now. Just look at his two playoff series so far in Houston.

Harden was being guarded by Avery Bradley that night. He doesn't usually shoot that bad. Without free throws, the guy can easily average something like 18 ppg. Last season he averaged 25.4 ppg overall. If he didn't shoot a single free throw that season, his average would've been 17.5 ppg.
