The Nets get Nash for his contract, saving about 3 million in salary and whatever luxury tax that follows with that for the Nets. The Nets also get a trade exception of 3 million. And the Nets clear out minutes for their young bigs, like Plumlee.

The Lakers get Garnett in an attempt to salvage this season. The Lakers need inside defense badly, and for 20 minutes per night Garnett can provide that.
