While I honestly do see Golic's point, I'd definitely take Simmons basketball expertise over Golic's anyday

Not gonna lie, I like Simmons' DGAF attitude. :oldlol: @ Ripping colleagues and their shows on twitter.

Not a fan of Bill, but at least he's entertaining.

M&M is the most contrived program in sports radio.

Not even about basketball expertise. Golic took what Simmons said out of context and criticized Simmons on something he didn't say.

Simmons don't seem to give a **** about his job though. :lol

ESPN could never fire him, because Fox Sports would pick him up instantly. He is ESPN's poster boy.

Within a year Simmons is going to be making $$$ somewhere else, like "ESPN how my ass taste?"

That was a terrible job by M&M staff in picking out that clip. At least listen to the entire interview before you nitpick his comments. Simmons clearly prefaced his comments and even talk about other issues surrounding this ball club before the LBJ stuff.

I'm not a fan of putting people on blast via social media, but Simmons, I suppose, feels like he needed to defend himself after his Goodell drama.

I really like Grantland's content and the staff he put together. If he gets fired, he'll get hired right away. But I'm not sure if he should be this cavalier in regards to his job status. If he stays on his best behavior, this little incident could be a nice negotiating chip when his deal is up next year haha.

Bill Simmons

His flamboyant Boston homerism aside, he is awesome. I noticed that his Grantland Basketball Hour only aired once, and now he's not on the ESPN NBA Countdown.

Don't get fired, Bill. Keep gettin' dem' checks!

Simmons is a clown. I have always liked Simmons (probably since I'm a Boston sports guy) and enjoyed his content, but really, who does this guy think he is. First the thing with Roger that got him suspended and he threatened ESPN that if they suspended him he'd come out with secret information or something and he did nothing. Now this thing with Golic, grow the F up. Golic may have been wrong for what he said and it's fine to jab back at him in an article or on a radio show or something, but to take to Twitter like a 13 year old girl and just rant on and on and on, I have lost all respect for that guy.

:applause: The whole twitter thing was ridiculous. Grow the f*ck up. He can dish it but he can't take it.

Same, Simmons and that entire network besides JVG can screw off for all I care.

This reminds me of an episode, on The David Chappelle Show, called When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong. Obviously, Bill Simmons kept it too real and now might face another suspension, etc.

However, in this case, Golic did go after him first. So, ESPN execs will probably just have a meeting with them and tell them to chill the hell out or else.

Mike and Mike is a decent radio show. But, it seems at times they try too hard. They do have some chemistry and go back and forth with each other, most of which seems staged/planned before hand. They are also seemingly too politically correct at times. They play the hand like a politician running for office. They'll give you their opinion, but it's laced with obvious social correctness and skewed to fit the same ideals of their listeners, fearing they will turn the channel if not.

Simmons is more raw/edgy. He will somewhat bend the line of what is politically correct and what he actually believes to be true. I like him. ESPN is owned by Disney. We all know that Disney is the epitome for trying to be politically correct to draw in "family viewers".

All in all. Mike and Mike and Bill Simmons are great pieces for ESPN if used properly. They are somewhat two sides of the same coin. They do seem to have different personalities, taste, and views on life. However, at the end of the day, they are both more of the same.

Sportscenter aside, Mike and Mike is the flagship talk show of the network. They have been around forever and are in the prime timeslot and it's the most coveted show for other personalities to fill in on. Because of this of coarse they are going to be a little more bland, one because it's so mass appeal, but also because they don't have to say ridiculous things to get attention. Simmons has a cult following online but as far as ESPN he's kind of a nobody.

I never liked Simmons but if he is taking jabs at ESPN then he's the lesser of two evils and I will support him.

But I find it funny he takes offense to Mike and Mike doing something he basically made his ESPN career on.

I don't think you have a very good understanding of what happened with the suspension

He's a joke these days. Tries to hard to be funny and I get the feeling nobody he is around genuinely likes him.

Simmons is totally in the right here. He gets shat on by a colleague who completely takes his quote out of context. Twitter is an expeditious way to reach the mass public. I blame him not one bit. Golic crossed the line...

I certainly may be missing something on the specific comments he made on the Herd or what Golic said on Mike and Mike, but that had nothing to do with my point. I was just speaking of his Twitter reaction to this and I did read all the juvenile things he posted on Twitter, and what lead up to that makes no real difference

As far as the previous suspension he called Goodell a liar about seeing the Ray Rice tapes, and anticipated that comment could lead to a suspension so he also said he'd 'go public' if suspended. Then he was suspended 3 weeks.

So what am I missing?

I don't really like him, esp his overused movie references, but I support his current thing. The thing that people say isn't free speech. Haha, but it is. It's not amendment rights, ok, but as people who do art or music or are even sports writers, to censor them is ridic. What espn should do is say Bill Simmons does not reflect our stance on anything, like they do with literature. You can publish something you don't agree with, people have to deal with the backlash for what they say, they should be able to say what they want esp if its relevant at all. I don't think Bill Simmons has the right to give his stance on abortion because that's not his job, unless it somehow tied in.

I still don't understand why Bill Simmons seems to get credit for saying generalized things about basketball. I've said from the beginning, Cleveland is not going to win sh*t with this team. Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving are never going to play the kind of defense that is required to win. It's not happening ever.

Bill Simmons thinks he is being edgy to say something like this when it's obvious.

That's not what was considered "edgy." He's pointing out how Lebron physically doesn't look the same out there. Slower, not as physically dominant in the paint and around the rim. No one expected to see this version of Lebron.

And that's a pretty stupid thing to judge 4 games into the season. Especially considering that Lebron's performances have been largely affected by having two other ball dominant guards.
