Amazing show so far

They need one for basketball for like a high school Chicago team.

I'm interested, but what makes it so good?

High school kids and their problems don't really interest me

any social commentary? humor?

Well I kind of miss high school. There is occasional subtle humor but the acting being so superb is what really keeps me going.

It's just high quality writing, production, and acting that makes it good. First three season are particularly strong besides a storyline in season 2. The social commentary on Texas small town culture is nice but it's secondary to the character development which is superb.

Yeah, and that particular storyline in season 2 is the only weakness in the show to me. If that's the worst that can be said about it, then they did pretty well for themselves.

If you like sports, you should watch the show. Especially if you watch football. I've never watched a full football game in my life (I only watch basketball) but it doesn't make any difference to me.

Excellent show from top to bottom, and classy as hell too.

Which storyline in season 2? Jason street? He should've ****ed off after season 1.

Landry and Tyra aka Bonnie and Clyde story

It's brilliant. I thought it was just going to be a soppy teenage drama like The O.C and One tree hill. Could not have been more wrong.

Landry and Tyra aka Bonnie and Clyde story
lol

Landry didn't make much sense. Season 1 matt is a sophomore and isn't revealed that Landry is actually a Grade below matt until matt graduates (Landry goes to the poor school). So Landry, a freshman in HS, is driving Matt to school every day. Must've got held back because freshman usually can't drive legally.

Yeah, that was weird. It was tough to get a grasp on what grades anybody was in to be honest.

There's a lot of social commentary. Religion, race, classes, disability, PEDs in sports, sex expectations in relation to gender, Texas culture in general. It's all a major part of the show from the second episode on (and the pilot is maybe the best pilot I have ever seen for a show). When you see the segregated-like churches, Matt's life, etc. That's all very much looked into early on. Terrific show.

Eric Taylor, Tami Taylor, and especially Matt Saracen are three of my favorite characters of all time. Matt's story and character development is heart-something... Also I'm not big on marriage, but whatever Eric and Tami have on the show, I want it.

Season 4 is my second favorite season and the series finale was truly done right. Enjoy it.

Amen to that. I remember reading that quite a few working on the show actually thought Kyle and Connie were sleeping together off-set because their on-set chemistry was so insane. There's a Grantland piece that touches on that and much more. A great read, but anyone still watching beware of spoilers.

Jason was excellent. I am glad that he wasn't around the entire series, but his role in the show was so important that there is no way he could just be erased from the landscape like that -- and I'm happy he wasn't.

Name your top 5 FNL women

1 tyra
2 lyla
3 tami
4 carlotta
5 that becky chick

Now looking at IMDB... you could honestly do a top 10. I left Julie Taylor off because I am not a pedo :coleman:
Dammit she's 25. I take Tami off and put her on :pimp:

4. Jess
5. Tyra

Honorable mention to Kim Dickens (Matt's mom) who I would give the slight edge over Tami. :pimp:

Edit: Also forgot about Mindy who I give another honorable mention to.

Jason was ok. I just feel like some of his shit was hard to watch.

I get asked all the time if Friday Night Lights is "really how it is."

The football craze and small town texas culture is definitely true.

I just posted this in another thread, but I watched it a few months ago and absolutely loved it. It had a few moments that were a bit too much. The Tyra Landry season two stuff was tough. I also wasn't a huge fan of some of the Streeter stuff. They did seem to just keep everyone back a year sort of out of nowhere (in retrospect the fact that Tyra is probably 15 when she sleeps with that young investor guy from LA seems a lot creepier than if she were 17 or 18, which I sort of thought she was).

Coach and Mrs. Coach are my all time favorite couple ever on TV. They make me want to make a difference in the lives of young people through loving discipline. Saracen is incredible. Smash was great. There probably isn't a show with a better built set of side characters.

It also went through a total rebirth for the last two seasons that is pretty much unheard of.

Tyra is a goddess, but I have a white knight fetish.
Becky I already had thing for when she was Masuka's daughter in the last season of Dexter, but she's stunning.
Mrs. Taylor is Super Milf-y almost straight out of a porn shoot, as a liberal open minded southern belle who also teaches young boys and coaches volleyball. I can't believe there isn't an entire series of Brazzers scenes devoted to her.
Julie gets really hot somewhere around season four.
And it's astounding that a girl who got all the way to engagement with Derek "gift basket" Jeter would be fifth on my list.

I kind of like this storyline in East Dhillon and how Vince the new QB still seems confused about being a legit football star or go back to his thug life to support his family.

When the show had to reinvent itself, I thought the show was going to begin to go on a downhill and become really tacky and corny. I was quite surprised.

Landry pulled way too much *****.
