The Oscar winner hasn't settled on his follow-up to “Dallas Buyers Club” so he's still available

Oscar winner Jared Leto is circling a key role in David Ayer‘s “Suicide Squad” that could prove to be The Joker, an individual familiar with the Warner Bros. project has told TheWrap.

Warner Bros. had no comment, while a representative for Leto did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Tom Hardy, Will Smith and Margot Robbie are in various stages of discussions to star in “Suicide Squad,” which David Ayer is directing and Charles Roven is producing. Jesse Eisenberg is also expected to reprise his role as Superman's mortal foe Lex Luthor, though no casting is confirmed at this time.

Ryan Gosling was initially sought to play The Joker but he was unwilling to sign a deal with options for multiple movies, according to one insider

Ryan Gosling would have been effin terrible. I have no problem with Jared Leto he can pull it off

Leto isn't much of an upgrade.

Leto would be nice, but they really need to get Adrian Brody.

Why is Leto a bad choice according to you Zen? :lol Arguing for the sake of arguing? In my opinion, he's a safe choice.

I saw someone throw out Jake Gylenhal's name. That would have been interesting.

Casting choices should be given a chance ever since Ledger.

I'm not arguing just to argue. I agree with you that Gosling would not fit the role well. I think it would be same for Leto. I don't think his style fits the person. He's a great actor but no matter how eccentric or off center he has been in past film he's never been organized chaos.. Which I feel the role of Joker needs. That certain ability to have both quiet intensity and vicerally violent in a absurd but dark way. It may just be my personal view, that despite his range, you always see a version of Leto in his roles. Even in Dallas Buyers Club..he's done stuff like putting makeup and nail polish on, Transgender dressing and being metro sexual prior to the movie. So it wasn't that much of a stretch.

Heath Ledger actually had displayed the aforementioned qualities before taking on the Joker in previous films. He just priorly displayed the manic charm without make up. Which is why I would also like Gyllenhaal in the role because he's able to be psychotic without even the need to speak.

Meh. I liked the idea of Denzel Washington playing Lex Luthor when the idea was being floated around. That would've been some inspired casting and a perfect choice IMO.

Anyone who has seen The Master (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLm_dWcV_Y4) knows Phoenix would've absolutely murdered the Joker role. He just might be the best actor working today.

I've never heard the Denzel rumor but that would have been awesome casting.

I think Leto would do a good job depending on how over the top they would wanna go with Joker.

I disagree I can see Leto creating a very monotone and articulate, psychotic Joker. The type who says really bizarre stuff then cracks a smile inappropriately. Something we haven't seen before the way Heath's Joker wasn't anything like Jack's. A lot like this Joker in the Dark knight Returns movie actually.

Never heard of him.

I don't have high expectations for this movie or any announced DC movie for that matter. Seems somewhat forced and filled with star power to compensate for the lack of real planning of their universe.
I'm looking forward to see how it turns out. Mediocre movies a la MoS at best imo...

Will this be Rated-R?

Either way, what parent will take their kids to see a movie called the "SUICIDE SQUAD"?

It's a lose-lose.

Anything less than a Rated-R movie like The Punisher would be a disservice to the comic. Nevertheless, they're going to lose out on the Weekend kids box office which is huge for Superhero films.

"Mommy, Daddy, I wanna go see the Suicide Squad!"

^ Good point.

They should make it Rated R to be honest. These dudes aren't Guardians of the Galaxy or Groot and Rocket. Suicide Squad is full of stone cold killers. But if Wolverine got PG-13, this will too

My hope in this movie is that David Ayer is directing and he's been on a role recently. Fury was an awesome flick

really dont like the fact that joker is on this team. he's the ultimate IDGAF character. he would kill his teammates as easily as he would his targets, and no threat from Waller would persuade him to play nice. being on the SS really diminishes his character.

I feel like Joker might be the target. No way Waller is dumb enough to recruit him

if they are going for graphics as well as simple story line

just be sure there aren't too many monologues and/or theyaren't too long

I think Gosling would be better honestly. But Phoenix or Jake G would be the best for sure if that could happen. Never thought Ledger had that role in him so I'm open to w a good character actor. Too much do ends on the director, tone, and plot for me to get that invested in the actor at this point to be honest.
