[QUOTE] An airstrike by a United States-led coalition hit a gathering of leaders of the Islamic State jihadist group in northwestern Iraq on Saturday, and Iraqi officials said they believed that a number of top militants had been killed.

An Iraqi security official and a military commander said that at least one strike had targeted a meeting near the town of Qaim, which is in Anbar Province, across the border from the Syrian town of Bukamal. The area is in the desert heartland of the territory the group has seized for its self-declared caliphate.

Both officials said that the strikes had killed many militants from the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, including two of its regional governors. [B]Rumors also swirled that the group

The US-led coalition unleashed airstrikes near the Iraqi city of Mosul targeting top jihadist militants but the fate of the Islamic State group's enigmatic leader remained unclear.

Claims swirled that hardline IS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi had been killed in the attacks late Friday, but US officials could not confirm if he had even been present.

Al Arabiya is reporting al-Badhdadi was critically injured in the attack.
The leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was “critically wounded” when a U.S.-led air strike targeted the western Iraqi border town of al-Qaim, tribal sources told Al Arabiya News Channel on Saturday.

U.S. Central Command confirmed in a statement that U.S.-led air strikes targeted ISIS leaders near their northern Iraqi hub of Mosul late Friday, without confirming whether Baghdadi was killed, AFP reported.

“This strike demonstrates the pressure we continue to place on the ISIL [ISIS] terrorist network and the group's increasingly limited freedom to maneuver, communicate and command," US Central Command said.

Anbar province MP Mohammad al-Karbuli told Al Arabiya News Channel that coalition aircraft had targeted a gathering of ISIS leaders in al-Qaim that led to the killing of tens of people and wounded.

Karbuli said chaos ensued the air raid with ISIS members scrambling to transport their wounded to al-Qaim hospital which was overwhelmed with the number of patients.

Reuters news agency quoted two witnesses as saying an air strike targeted a house where senior ISIS officers were meeting, near al-Qaim.

The witnesses said ISIS fighters had cleared a hospital so that their wounded could be treated. ISIS fighters used loudspeakers to urge residents to donate blood, the witnesses said.

The agency also quoted residents as saying there were unconfirmed reports that ISIS’ local leader in the western Iraqi province of Anbar and his deputy were killed.

expensive airstrikes haven't slowed down the ISIS, sure the Kurdish areas are safer but ISIS is just expanding elsewhere in Iraq

Yes, they have slowed down ISIS. ISIS doesn't have the momentum it had early this year.

This airstrike on a large number of leaders means we are getting intelligence on ISIS, most likely from tribal sources. Their ability to move in mass is now affected and their planning and how they meet is going to occupy a lot more of their time right now.

It fair to say, ISIS is still around and still controls a lot of area, but its not accurate to say they haven't slowed down. Their areas of control were expanding rapidly early this year and that has definitely slowed down.

Iraqi TV is claiming that al-Baghdadi was wounded. AP says the IRaqi Defense and Interiror Ministries released statements saying he was wounded but no details were given.

Also in terms of ISIS momentum, here is Sunni's and Shiite's working against ISIS which is a sign of the changing dynamics on the ground. (http://www.mcclatchydc.com/2014/11/08/246246/sunni-tribes-join-shiite-militias.html)

Sunni Muslim tribesmen, Shiite militia fighters and Iraqi security forces set out Saturday to recapture a key city in Anbar province and stop Islamic State atrocities against a local tribe in an extraordinary coalition that could stir sectarian tensions or serve as a model for future cooperation against the militants.

The operation to liberate Hit, about 90 miles west of Baghdad, could reshape the situation in Anbar in a way that would affect the mission of U.S. troops who are being deployed to the province from among the additional 1,500 U.S. military advisers the Pentagon said it is sending to Iraq at year-end.

“This is a dramatic change,” said Hisham al Hashimi, an Iraqi defense analyst. “We have the Sunni Arab tribes fighting hand in hand with the Shiites.”

Earlier, U.S. warplanes attacked Islamic State positions on the route of the advance, which was moving slowly because of numerous roadside bombs, according to two tribal leaders reached by telephone.

The airstrikes “had a good impact on Daash positions. They’ve had a lot of casualties,” said heikh Bilal al Goud, who was with the attacking force, using the disparaging Arabic acronym for the Islamic State. Sounds of fighting could be heard in the background.

Accepting offers of assistance from the Shiite militias, notorious for anti-Sunni atrocities, is a measure of the Albu Nimr leaders’ desperation to stop the slaughter of their people by the Islamic State in retribution for the tribe’s stiff, months-long defense of Hit, which capitulated in October.

Looks like Baghdadi is alive.

The head of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has purportedly said it will fight to the last man.

The comments by the militant group's leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, came in an audio statement, his first since a U.S.-led alliance began conducting airstrikes targeting the group in Iraq and Syria.

In the statement, released Thursday on social media networks, he says his fighters "will never leave fighting, even if only one soldier remains."

The recording appeared authentic, and his voice appeared to correspond with previous recordings released by the group, though it has not been independently confirmed.

Al-Baghdadi's statement came after rumors that he was wounded in an airstrike. It was not clear whether the recording was made before or after the incident.

[QUOTE]"O soldiers of the Islamic State, continue to harvest the soldiers," the recording said. "Erupt volcanoes of jihad everywhere. Light the Earth with fire." The extremist leader claimed the bombing campaign against ISIS in Syria and Iraq is failing, saying:

Give it up dude, you're too poor at reading comprehension to detect sarcasm and even worse at irony. See if you can find an adult who can understand the meaning.
