By a good margin: http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/per_season.html

Is there any doubt that this guy is going to be the best player in the league, if he isn't already?

Oh my Lord.

Him and Demarcus. Dominant guys.

I suspect this wouldnt crack the top 300 5 game streaks...it being the first 5 games of the season doesnt make it more than it is.

Id say he has the potential to be the best player in the league....but he has a ways to go as an offensive player. Not saying he has not made great gains already...or that hes just a cleanup type scorer as some have said...

Just saying...he has room to improve quite a bit.

I can tell you havent watched AD at all this year. He scores a lot on jumpers and drives to the basket, in addition to offensive putbacks

I think it is safe to say we can expect a PER this season of 28+ for AD

Can't believe I thought Thomas Robinson was better than him back when Sac drafted him.

Why not declare the MVP after 1 game then? :pimp:

P.S. Oh, and Curry is above many prime Shaq, Jordan and Kareem years, then its must be true

I knew Brandan Wright was better than Jordan.

Does he ever miss shots? His FG% over the last few seasons is absurd.

So all you got from his post is that he hasn't watched AD AT ALL this year? Even though he said he's made great strides on offense? So because he doesn't think he's the best player in the league right now, that means he hasn't watch AD AT ALL? Some of you fans man......

And I have watched AD and he does still have plenty of room to grow on offense......However, he is an excellent player......

Edit - and I don't care how bad Lebron has played this year, he is still the best player in the league and he is still in his prime....

I'm not suprised, i've said it many times, this is the weakest era since Wilt era.

I'd rather be the 2nd best player and not be fvk ugly

The title is not at all true, lots of players have had better stats over a 5 game period.

the fact that you think that he is already the best player...:facepalm
esp. based off this... :facepalm :facepalm

Did you actually compare a 5 game stretch to an 82 game season? :facepalm

Honestly he probably won't finish with a PER above 30. I suspect he finishes in the 26-28 range (which is still really good).

So when Wilt was winning scoring titles by unapproachable margins, leading the league in rebounding by solid margins, setting FG% records, handing out more apg (in an era when they were more difficult to come by), probably blocking at least twice as many shots per game, and was much more of a factor on the defensive end...all in the same season(s)...

and somehow AD has a high PER...and in only five games...

Hmm....

What are Wilts per numbers anways?

Hmm....

What are Wilts per numbers anways?

Considering some of the recent PER marks by Lebron...FAR less than what they should have been. Even so, the top-2, and three of the top-6. However, he was at his peak in 65-66, 66-67, and 67-68...and they are considerably down the list. All of which makes PER a relatively inaccurate stat. Just ask Bill Russell.

His blocks and steals are not calculated for him, since they were not tracked back then, so his numbers are inaccurate.

But even at that...how about his 65-66 season, and with a PER of 28.26, which is...get this...#52 all-time?

Led the NBA in scoring at 33.5 ppg; led the NBA in rebounding, at 24.6; averaged 5.2 apg; set a then record mark of a .540 FG%; and overall, LED the NBA in 13 of 23 statistical categories, and was top-5 in another four.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_1966.html

Oh, and BTW, he also led his team to the best record in the league.

And, as you mentioned, we don't have his BPG; nor his TRB%; or Offensive TRB%; or Defensive TRB%.

So, how can there possibly be 51 other performances in NBA history that were better than Chamberlain's 65-66 season?

The more correct question would be: "What was Wilt's best PER during his first 5 games in a season?". Let's remember that he got a 31.8 in the season when he averaged 44.8/24.3, yet...he had averaged 52.8/31.2 in his first 5 games, so a PER of 38-40 in those games wouldn't be out of the question.
