The Celtics tried to sign Bernard King in the summer of '87, but he opted for a larger role (and I guess money) to join the Bullets.
The C's core was getting old at that point. Bird and McHale were breaking down. 1987 was their last best chance at a title but they were decimated by injuries. Would having King have made a big difference in 1988? Does it get them past Detroit and LA?
