+1. Holy shit insomnia is a bitch. Pretty much average 24 hours of sleep a WEEK. Go to bed early, excited you're going to get a lot of sleep only for it to take you 5-6 hours to ****ing fall asleep. :facepalm

Doooooood. So i did this last night and it totally happened. I told myself right before I went to sleep (quite a few times actually) that the next time I am doing anything it's going to be a dream. I was playing bball back at the YMCA when I was like 7 years old (was killing it too) and it was comprised mostly of kids who I knew in High School that were that were that age (not the kids I played with when I was 7 just what my brain made up). I realized that I was in a dream and I mentioned it to the kids I played with after the game and of course they are like "whaaat?". I tried to keep it going for a little longer but once I knew it wasn't real it faded. I then woke up at a college somewhere but funny enough I didn't know that wasn't a dream though and I went around telling everybody I knew what happened to me. I must have had like 2 or 3 other dreams too and one that was seriously boring... pretty crazy. What a trip! That dream within a dream thing was seriously just like the movie though.

I am going to do that every night now haha.

What you had is called a lucid dreaming. Which simply means that you were aware of dreaming. With practice you can learn to control those dreams, altering them and making them unboring.

What happened to you Is typical of beginners. You become lucid then that awareness causes you to become excited. Then that state of awareness propels you out of your dream. The same thing happens to many, where your awareness causes you to ' wake up ' into another dream. It's your mind way of self correction since your subconscious is not yet accustomed to dream lucidity.

Don't get discouraged when it becomes difficult for you to replicate this experience. It takes practice and effort to make it something that you can routinely trigger. With time you can get skilled at it. Google lucid dreaming, there's a lot of info out there in blogs, books and medical journals, that help by teaching techniques.

Yea I am aware of lucid dreaming and this is not the first time it's happened to me. The last couple times it happened I didn't get excited and wake up into another dream I just woke up because I knew it was a dream... I got excited this time because I went to bed saying this was going to happen and did haha. One time I did know it was a dream though and I was still able to keep it going for a while kind of willing things to happen... but before anything really cool happened I woke up. It has been a good long while since that I had a lucid dream though. I don't doubt it might take me a little while before I am aware of one again, but maybe if I keep telling myself what I told myself last night it will happen more often. I will read up more about though because I don't know a whole lot about it, just what it is and that I've done it before. I'd like to get to a state of awareness and comfort that I know it's a dream but that doesn't stop me from just doing whatever I want within it ha.
