Yeah, that's why I bolded currently. I expect him to be top 3 at least, but right now? Not even close. Hardly statistical domination, leading his squad to a .500 record, whilst Gasol's team is 8-1, and we've seen how mediocre they are without him.

I never thought I would say this, but if the voting was held right now, I think I would vote for James Harden as the MVP.

His defense is much better this year, his offense is excellent as always, and he has done a spectacular job of keeping the Rockets going with Dwight out.

If you had told me before the season that Dwight would miss 12 out of the first 22 games, and asked me to guess what the Rockets record would be, I probably would have said they'd be 9-13 or something like that. Instead they are 17-5 ...

We have to take team success into consideration. I think it's fair to say that so far the top 3 candidates are Curry, Gasol and Harden. Davis numbers are pretty impressive but his Pelicans are struggling.

I'm sorry, but Marc Gasol is just not good enough to be the MVP, no matter what his team record is.

He's a great defender and team player, but his scoring average is below 20ppg, he is not a good rebounder, and his field goal percentage is pretty low for a center.

Harden and Curry are both clearly ahead of him.

The obvious MVP, and it's a joint award this year, is Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

OKC was 3-12 in their first fifteen games in their absence. Now that they are back, the Thunder have won five straight games and seven of their last eight. They've been back two weeks and already has their team one game back in the loss column to the currently eighth seeded Phoenix Suns.

What's shows their value more than that? My vote is for first ever co-MVP's.

Gotta give credit where it's due..Harden is the clear MVP right now if we're factoring in circumstances. Dude is single handedly dragging the SG position out of the shitter. Gonna be interesting to see how his game changes and how the team reacts to having Dwight back, but I have a feeling what he's doing is sustainable.

So OKC winning nearly 75% of their games over the last three plus seasons with KD and RW playing isn't enough to convince you how impactful and dominant that this duo is and it is necessary to see them against better competition?

Their 3-12 start just illustrated their importance to any doubters out there of how good they truly are, and thus my MVP's.

I think it's unfair to Westbrook, throwing Durant into the mix. Durant has made a nice return so far, but Westbrook has been absolutely dominant in his return.. I'm sure KD will return to that MVP impact form soon, but watching the games, Westbrook's really driving them right now. I think he deserves that distinction.

Fair enough.

RW has been outstanding and he's doing it by playing under 30 minutes per game this season. His numbers per 36 minutes just illustrate how dominant his play has been:

31 ppg, 7 rpg and 8 apg and 50% fg

I know we had that disagreement in the Spurs thread about Parker, but even you can admit him being anyway near the top 15 is beyond absurd. He's missed a bunch of games, but even in the ones he played he clearly wasn't better than Duncan, Kawhi, Green, Manu etc. :biggums:

I don't know why based on his play so far he's in the top 15.. It would just look so outrageous to casuals if it would say Danny Green, instead of a high profile name like Tony Parker.

Lillard and Paul are CRIMINALLY underrated. How are they NOT MVP candidates? Lillard has emerged as the best player on the Blazers team, and he's been so much better than LMA this year it's not funny. He's been as good as Lowry, but on an elite WC team.

LeBron is listed that high on name alone -- he might not even be top 10. 11th in win shares, 17th in win shares per 48, 8th in RAPM, 7th in PER, alarmingly high turnover rate, has pretty much stopped getting offensive rebounds, mediocre defense, eye test, underperforming team in the East.

Still a fantastic year by almost anyone else's standards, but barely top 10, if even THAT.

Compare his year to CP3's, and you can see why LeBron is the beneficiary of some media love and rose-tinted glasses to be on everyones top 5 when CP3 has been completely overlooked. Better year, playing on a better team. That's just one example.

4. Marc Gasol
5. Damian Lillard
6. Kyle Lowry

8. CP3 (underrated this year, had a scorching start, but has regressed).

10. LeBron James/John Wall

Considering the NBA MVP criteria its really impossible to see the clear MVP at this moment....... the best producing players who are easily the best player in their teams & the most valuable to their team than anybody else (like Lebron/Davis/Durant... Westbrook?) dont have one of the best records so they couldnt be #1 perhaps..... and the teams that do have the best records (Toronto/Portland/Memphis/GSW/Atlanta) really are playing a team game or have 2 or even 3 players in one team (like Memphis) who are essentially equally accountable for their teams success....

Unless example Lebron/Cavs start going ham this could be the most epic random MVP toss up in NBA history between many random all-stars, who really will then let us officially start the "worst player to ever win MVP" debates big time........

Steph Curry is playing better ball than Lebron this year :confusedshrug:

- Better shooter/scorer

- Just as good a passer, if not better

- More consistent effort on defense

- Averaging just as many rebounds despite being way smaller

- Isn't being a whiny douche

lol at calling Curry a "random all star". Dude is putting up 23/8/5 on elite efficiency and has led his team to the best record in the league. Show some ****ing respect.

I dont know why you even bother after all these years.... No matter what ration & facts i have managed to prove you wrong with over the years you have always neglected.... Its like talking to a wall.... you hate Lebron, he sux, everybody is better, is not top 10, is not top 20, Kobe now > Lebron now, **** him.... OK! You just never will change huh? Curry aint better at shit except the shooting thing.... but so is even his teammate Klay and many others....

lol at calling Curry a "random all star". Dude is putting up 23/8/5 on elite efficiency and has led his team to the best record in the league. Show some ****ing respect.

I didnt mean to call Curry a "random all star", infact i didnt even type his name anywhere there.... i meant that in my opinion the MVP at this point could end up between many all stars... randomly.... to a random player who happens to be an all-star in the random team that just so happens to have the best record/records... get it?

...and if your choice for MVP at this point is simply Curry then in that case i think Lowry would be a better choice....

Lowry 21-5-8, his best help atm = Williams 15-2-2

Curry 23-5-8, his best help atm = Klay 21-4-3

...and then we could start arguing if Gasol should be ahead instead, if he has performed better, if he did it with less help.... then you go with Lillard, Harden etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

Like i said.... the MVP at this point could just end up between many all-stars... randomly.......

Point is, there is no clear-cut runaway MVP this season or something.... nowhere close.... at least i dont think so.

Curry seems like a pretty good choice to me. Best player on the best team, and arguably the best player in the entire league.

If you dont think Curry is a top 3 candidate for MVP then there is something you do not understand about the game of hoops.

The clear cut best player on the best team. Puts up non empty stats and is playing good defense. Is clutch when needed, always puts team before himself, etc.

He will never be a kobe or lebron. However, given the "new" NBA the Spurs started with their team game he is the best at it. Has great stats and still manages to do it within a winning style of hoops.

He is the most alpha beta there ever has been.

Yea, Kyrie missed a game.... Newsflash: Varejao and Waiters are gone for the season and the team is 5-1 since LeBron is back...... right after being 1-8 without him...... just a coincidence, right? Keep telling yourself its Varejao, Mozgov, or anyone else... No doubt Mozgov brings value, but there's one consistent, and you try to deny it..... cry harder.

you do realize that Mozgof and then Smith and Shumpert were traded for at different times? It takes some time to get adjusted to a new team, the cavs were scrambling their entire roster during that stretch

Pretty sure the guy that runs this spot for NBA.com is mentally handicapped.

Teague is an MVP candidate on one of the most well-balanced teams in the league?
Both Curry and Thompson are qualified for MVP? Newsflash: When one player is MVP, that automatically knocks down another.

Unless the MVP is MVP of the league, and not MVP of the league relative to their team, then there is no reason to have Curry, Thompson, Durant, Westbrook, Teague, Horford on there.

I don't understand what you're saying here.

If you're questioning what I said, then...
Quality of one's teammates instantly diminishes said player's value. Therefore, the "most stacked" or "best" teams are less likely to have any one player that is truly the MOST valuable. Therefore, listing multiple players from one team on a list noting the "most valuable" players is a little bit backwards.

If you're agreeing with what I said, then you phrased it in an interesting way, and I apologize for not understanding it.

So basically you're rewarding Steph Curry because of team accomplishments?

O'alright. :coleman:

You don't say, "Stephen Curry is the MVP because Golden State is the most complete team in the league."

You say, "James Harden is the MVP because he impacts Houston more than any other player does on their own team."
