he was excellent in 2011, 2012, and 2013 but not goat level, not on the level of someone like pippen or artest. very good in 2010 and good in 2009. before that he was not a very good defender until about 2008. until then he was very inconsistent.

really he has about 3 years of elite defense from 2011 to 2013.

for all the crap kobe gets for slacking on defense, he has had more years of great defense than lebron has.
