[QUOTE]Rudy Gay has reached agreement on a three-year, $40 million contract extension with the Sacramento Kings, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Gay has one year left on his current deal, which will pay him $19.3 million.

The extension begins with the 2015-16 season, and includes a player option for the the 2017-18 season, sources told Yahoo Sports. The ability to exit the deal early gives Gay a chance to become a free agent in the summer of 2017, when he

He's actually been pretty damn good for the Kings.

Overpay imo but who is realistically going to sign there if they don't lock him up?

Fair deal, Kings need a 2nd option/chucker next to Cuz and still leaves room to sign another player to help us. I don't really like Rudy but I can't say he has not helped us so far. All that's left is for Mclemore to keep developing and a shot blocking big.

Bout $13 mil a year depending how they scale it. A lot better than what he was being payed. He's been balling early this year so let's hope he proves he can play to his worth.

Eh that's not too bad, considering how surprisingly decent he's been for them. Even moreso under the new cap. And he's only 28 too, this contract will only go through his peak.

13mil/yr for ~20ppg on 55-56% TS is not bad at all imo.

This.

The only reason he was playing decent was to get an extension. Now that he did, he's going back to playing like shit. Embrace the gay Kings fans.

Rather give him this money than the Iggy contract that he rejected. A true #2 score.

Now all the Kings have to do is make one more move to put them in contention for the playoffs

Jason Thompson, Derrick Williams for Josh Smith

Kings pay 14M more over the course of 3 years for Josh Smith instead of Jason Thompson. That comes out to be roughly 4.3M more a year for Smith than Thompson which is a steal no matter how you look at it.

Pistons get cap relief and use that 7M saved to go after a SF and resign Monroe

Nah Smith has been beyond garbage and JT is one of the better post defenders in the NBA, dude completely shut down the likes of Duncan and Griffin this year. Unless it's for a legit sized PF/C who blocks shots not worth it.

Gonna be the next Joe Johnson.

Dude stays getting paid.

Still overpaid but if he keeps playing well its not terrible. They arent contending for a title with or without him anytime soon, might as well keep him around for now. Not really anyone else to give that money to anyway.

Fair deal if he keeps up his production. Kings gotta lock up guys up because, let's be honest, they probably won't land any big name FA's.

unfortunately, yeah, this is the case...

Gay will be worth it if he continues to play smart (which isn't always the case, even this season...). He has to realize he can still get his 22ppg while still passing up bad shots or pass to the open guy, etc.

Not a bad deal. May even look better once the new cap has settled in.
