View Full Version : If Kobe was a free agent right now, would you want your team to sign him?

And what is the most you would give him in a contract?

I don't know if Kobe would leave the Lakers. He basically got paid a bunch of money to play with scrubs. I would have demanded 50 million in the summer if I knew the Lakers were going to put this squad together.

If the Lakers actually got a good team and signed some average to good players, Kobe would play for free.

People like to talk about his contract but it's the Lakers begging and giving him that huge money to stay with scrubs. If you think about it why would Kobe, who has accomplished so much, come and play with some scrubs?...Lakers gave him a ton to stay.

No, and honestly Kobe doesn't deserve anything over the veterans minimum. Dude is literally a net negative on the court.

The only teams in the world that would sign Kobe Bryant at this point in his career are in the middle east.

Id pay him 2mil so he won't play on my team. I don't need someone creating chemistry issues and having a sense of entitlement. Basketball wise I don't need someone who wont play within a set system and is inefficient and refuses/unable to put 80% of their effort to defence and 20% to offense.

And the bench?
Taj,Mirotic,Dunleavy,Brooks,Hinrich,McDermott,Snel l

Jordan Farmar,Lamar Odom,Sasha Vujacic,Luke Walton, DJ MBenga

We wouldn't even need to start Rose or give him much minutes. Put Hinrich or Brooks out there and let Kobe handle the ball, then when you sit Kobe out to give his 36 yr old legs rest, put Rose out there and make the other team's defenses have to adjust once again.

Most teams would recruit Kobe if he was a FA....who wouldn't?

Obviously, if Kobe wanted to go to a winning situation, he would have to take less. Too bad the Lakers wasted their amnesty provision on MWP, it would be nice to amnesty Kobe and let teams bid for his services, people are too caught up with this one team shit and being with a franchise your whole career. They are not doing Kobe right and he doesn't deserve to waste more years in mediocrity.

Yeah, purely because it'd be so wrong to see Kobe actually playing for Boston after all these years (and not just in a training jersey way back when he was in high school).

It's so wrong seiing Kobe be a sideshow on a team that clearly has no business even being in this league.

As a spurs fan... I say Fk no!!!

Kobe pretty much plays the opposite to the spurs.. The spurs are about beautiful team work.. Kobe is only about Kobe...

He would be About the worst player in the league for spurs.. I wouldn't even trade Matt bonner for him seriously..

This version of Kobe is only useful on a tanking team.. His chucking would help any team to tank.. Any playoff contender would be better without this chemistry cancer..

I'd take him in a heartbeat on the Knicks. Pair him up with another star and it could be like Spree-Houston version of the Knicks. They wouldn't win 50 games but they would definitely make the playoffs and be a tough out once they get there. Kobe would show Melo what it takes because of his championship experience. Get it done, Phil

I actually think he would work on the Spurs if he'd agree to have his minutes and shot attempts cut into.

Mainly I believe the Spurs would work because he needs a strong coaching personality to reign him in. Pop would have no problem setting him straight. No one on that team would be in awe of him. He would either fall in line or be phased out.

No one in that Lakers team or organization will stand up to him so they acquiesce constantly and the entire organization suffers. On the Spurs he'd just be another player in the rotation.

if I were a chinese team, yes. An nba team? No way. Whatever positives he still brings (and he does bring some), his lack of defensive effort, need to dominate the ball, and obvious interpersonal issues are way too much.

I should add to my Spurs post; Kobe would never play for ths Spurs. His ego wouldn't allow it.

As bad as the Lakers are, he will always be the top dog there. I think he would rather be a top dog on a horrible team than play on a team like the Spurs.

To him the reward of making it to the playoffs (however remote that possibility is) with a team of vagabonds is much more rewarding than doing well on a strong team where he would just be another player. He's a little delusional, which is beneficial in a way. I think all greats have to be delusional. It's just hurting him right now when he actually needs help on his team.

Wouldn't consider it. JJ & Jamal are more than good enough, and neither would take more than 2 shots a game that is out of the flow. I'd say a 1/4 of Kobe's shots are out of the flow, so about 6 a game.

Yeah, no dice.
