my 2002 ford explorer has 188k miles..but if i redo everything brand new, could it last me another 10 yrs?

i was thinking... why not spend 2-3k on a badass new engine (maybe a cadillac SRX suv engine?)... 1k on badass tires.. fix up everything brand new.

i love the explorer body type and wouldnt mind just redoing the whole inside engine, mechanics, etc... would this idea work?

4-7k is a lot of money to put into a 12 year old vehicle (pretty much 13 years old).

true, but theoritically speaking, would it last me another 10 yrs if i redo everything brand new?/..

im saying... the inside is equivalent to a 2014 cadillac suv.. but the outside is 2002 ford explorer..
whatchya think?

The re-sell value of the 2014 car in 10 years will be much higher than a 22 year old Explorer. No buyer will care that the engine is 10 years old in the 22 year old car. Plus, it is nice to have the look of the new car.

Those are some of the worst years for Ford quality that led to their restructuring and dramatic increase in quality around 2008.

Ugh had a 2002 or 2003 Explorer too. That transmission died. It was powerful though. That engine. But get a new car man.

I agree

Ford = Found On Road Dead

Ford Transmissions are not going to last you. Might as well cut your losses and use the 4-7K on a down payment rather than sink it into your explorer.

Another vote for new car
More reliable; better fuel economy; better aesthetics; etc

Yes it would, now ask yourself are you so in love with the thing that you would want to spend another 10 years in it?

The only opinion that matters is your own, if you like the car then fix it up... it's not a collectors car so do it knowing that you'll never see that money again but still it's cheaper than buying something else for 15k and watching it depreciate over the years...

explain to me like im 5 why this wouldnt work?

as for the questions "why fix up a 2002 explorer? " .. i love the body type (bigbody , cool frame/aerodynamics, etc).. if i buy a 15k vehicle, its gonna be some eco friendly, small vehicle just for getting around.. feel me? not that theres anything wrong with that, id just prefer some style and toughness that you cant get with 15k

Do the math, you urban marketee.

Compare the cost of the car, cost of gas, and cost of service (insurance, registration, etc) of each for the next 10 years.

The answer is truly obvious. Buy a new car.
