Climatologist: 30-year cold spell strikes Earth (http://www.newsmax.com/Headline/dark-winter-cold-global-cooling/2014/11/16/id/607672/)

[QUOTE]Rising temperatures would begin to reverse themselves within three years. The sun would enter a phase of reduced activity he called "solar hibernation." And oceanic and atmospheric temperatures would enter a long decline.

So far, all of Casey's predictions have come true. He says, "My theory tells you when it will be cold ... and it is the cold that kills."

Casey also suggests that a long-term cold spell will have dire effects on the earth's geology.

As air and ocean temperatures cool, the earth's crust begins changing, leading to more volcanic activity and earthquakes. Casey notes that the worst earthquake to strike the continental U.S. in modern times was in 1812 in New Madrid, Missouri

His groups' website is pretty hilarious. It looks like something a high school student would make in the late 90's.

The "Cold Climate Forecasters" section cites a research paper written by their founder that is published nowhere.

Seems theres some truth to it.

Who says this guy is a cliamtologist?

His own bio doesn't even make that claim. (http://www.spaceandscience.net/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/caseyjohnbioandphotocurrent.pdf)

He is one of America’s most successful climate change researchers and climate prediction experts.

His BA is in Math and Physics and his MA is in management. None of these make you a climate expert.

He's also got a side gig as "an Earthquake and Volcano predictor." (http://www.ievpc.org/id1.html)

He seems to make a living asking for funding and speaking to Tea Party and anti-Agenda 21 groups.

This appears to be in no way related to the original post, the "scientists" listed, any work they've done, or their organization.

the earth isnt just going to change on a dime, neither is the sun. if the sun does go into some sort of inactive period, it would gradually get to that stage over thousands if not hundred thousands if not millions of years. to say that will happen in 30 years time is a joke.

Figures kevinyc and deucephalluses are predictably focusing on the irrelevant aspect of one persons credentials when in fact the point of the thread is corroborated elsewhere including a link in this very thread to national geographic.

Obviously these two global warming chicken littlers are trying to divert attention from the fact they got mindlessly carried away in spitting out the "im so cool and progressive" talking points about global warming and now look potentially foolish. Its like how they use the race card to distract when they have lost an argument, now theyre arguing what one guys degree is in rather than the evidence of the actual topic.

These fukkin cornballs, I tell ya what. So predictable :facepalm

You're a fool. The guy's credentials are completely relevant.

If Newsmax feels they have to lie about the guy's credentials that's a giant clue.
The guy is not a climatologist, they are claiming he is. If you believe them, you've been hoodwinked.

What's the news value of Out of Work Actor: 30-Year Cold Spell Strikes Earth? Nothing. Same as what this guy is saying.

Deuce makes they point that he has not put his work up for peer review. Even well intention ed scientists who are not frauds like this guy is, need to have qualified experts review their work, because it's so easy to overlook things or get things wrong or misread the data.

You are too ideologically blinded to see through this fraud. You cite that National Geographic article. Did you read it? Were you too blinded to see that nothing supports this guy's claim? That the phenomenon discussed has to do with the sun's magnetic radiation, not heat radiation. Did you miss the scientist quoted?

Your argument and Newsmax's rests upon the fallacy known as Inappropriate Appeal to Authority (http://linglogic.wikia.com/wiki/Inappropriate_appeal_to_authority)
The arguer bases her argument on the authority of someone who does not in fact have authority in the issue at hand.
Pattern:
B is improperly positioned as an authority figure on subject S.
B makes a claim C on subject S.
Therefore, C is true.

You, of course are blindly agreeing with an expert who uses evidence of a harsh winter in the Eastern US to argue about a global phenomenon. This ignores the fact that whole Pacific was broiling within the past 12 months, with Siberia and Alaska were having heat waves in January, California's on pace for it's warmest year ever and this year's Australian Open was played in brutal heat. Adelaide was above 108 F for five days in a row.

With nasty cold fronts thrusting an icy and early winter across the continental U.S. — along with last winter described by USA Today as "one of the snowiest, coldest, most miserable on record" — climatologist John L. Casey thinks the weather pattern is here to stay for decades to come.

Here's the real evidence on global temperature this year. It could be the warmest year ever this year.

All 50 states including Hawaii are supposed to freeze tonight and we are barely past the middle of November.
