Means nothing?

Then why does the NBA keep track of such stats?

In any case, one can only wonder how many more points Kareem and Chamberlain would have scored in their careers, had they had the luxury to jump right from high school.

It does mean something and is a great accomplishment for anyone who moves up all-time scoring list should be congratulated.

Being top 3 in total points scored either shows your great tenure in the game.

It really doesn't. Is Karl Malone a better scorer than Jordan?

Nah it means something..

It's a big deal in the sense that anyone who makes that list commands respect, but likewise not indicative of who the better scorer is.

All about perspective I suppose.

If it didn't mean much.. Why does Kobe (supposedly) care about it so much?

because kobe wants to be better than jordan in at least one statistic before retiring. which doesn't mean much really because he's played several more games than jordan and shot jacked way more.

We're talking about passing Jordan. Obviously everyone on these lists command respect.

Kobe wants it real bad, because I guess:

- 81 > 69
- And all-time accumlative point total > Jordan's point total

Are the only things Kobe will have over Mike in arguments. 24 really didn't turn out to be > than 23, now did it?

Saying you had more points than Jordan, arguably the greatest who played the sport, is incredibly impressive. It's a testament to his longevity.

Arguing that Kobe is a better scorer on the other hand...

Word. Mike's 10 scoring titles speak for them self, and in the postseason? His points-per production emasculate Bean.

a college kid scored 131 points so what does this prove?

11-18-2014, 06:11 PM
Passing MJ in career points proves what exactly? Kobe has played more minutes, more games and chucked up a more shots... on way inferior efficiency.
