:applause: Skill level and basketball IQ are ridiculous... Then you also got him (a superstar) hustling like a mad man out there. And yea, keep thinking he had below average athleticism or something  Or forget that he was also legit 6'9...
Never seen that dunk before, one of Bird's best for sure and only "put out" now... Just for people to see how there's footage we might never see, when talking about those days and more for before.

If you pay attention, it's clear that he bounces the ball right before the gather and the last two steps.

I can tell you one thing, I got my hands on more rare Bird games from early in his career; you'll see how athletic he was before his back injury...

Great clip. We don't get to see a lot of Bird from the '81-'82 and '82-'83 seasons because they weren't tied to championships, but the footage is fascinating because you can see how he was slowly refining his game each year, transitioning from a more physical player to one that increasingly utilized finesse.
Though both elements would always be a big part of his game, he clearly played with more physicality through the end of the '83-'84 season than he ever would again.
Love how this clip shows how smooth Max was in the post - he had a great jump hook.
The Celts loved to run the break during this period, and were very physical with guys like Buckner, Robey, and Charles Bradley - who was an arm wrestling champion on ESPN back in the day!
