View Full Version : LeBron: I want less playing time

"I wouldn't mind it," James said. "I think we have to give our guys on the bench more of an opportunity. I looked at a stat and myself, Kyrie (Irving) and Kevin (Love) are three of the top five guys in the league in minutes per game and that has to come down."

"For me, I don't want to do that all year," James said. "Obviously right now it's difficult because we're trying to find a groove, we're trying to find a rhythm and we're trying to implement something that you don't want to shortcut it, but at the same time you want to be smart about it. So, I don't mind giving a few of my minutes up just to help the team, to help my minutes go down. I think it would be for the best."

Yes, as opposed to leading his team to a 2-9 start while shooting sub 40% Kobe Bryant could be putting up 28/8/4 on 57/50/80 in the NBA finals

Are those guys in the prime of their career?

oh the horror
11-19-2014, 12:40 AM
In all fairness Lebron did come out of HS and has logged a lot of ball.

But on the other hand can you guys imagine other all time greats saying shit like this given Lebron's career thus far?

Sorry dudes but from what I've seen of Bron this is more of the dude being a lame at times.

Are those guys in the prime of their career?

Tim Duncan hasn't played more than 34.8mpg since he was 27. He's averaged over 40mpg ONE SEASON. Tony Parker has NEVER averaged more than 34.4. Manu Ginobili has never averaged over 31.1. Lebron has an 39.5mpg career average and four seasons averaging over 40mpg. Keep going though. Clowns.

Are those guys in the prime of their career?
Have those guys just got done playing 4 straight finals?

This notion that someone is in the prime of their career means someone should play unlimited minutes... it's ****ing absurd. A lot of players in the playoffs worn out from too many minutes.. look at Durant last season or the entire Bulls team in 2013.

Plus weren't you and some other posters trying to say that LeBron looks like he's athletically declining? Or does a guy go from physically declining to his prime depending on what the agenda is for the day?

Why are players saying this stuff out loud?

All Lebron needs to do is talk to the coach and there is a decent chance people dont even notice

I think coming into this season the talk was about him playing less but there have been many games above 40 minutes. This clearly has to go down.

Anyway, I agree that bron SHOULD be playing less minutes. I thought I was hearing/reading stuff about him playing less minutes this season... I guess it's up to the coach though. I highly doubt all 3 of them will end up being top 5 in mpg by the end of the season anyway, especially bron.

what a crybaby. In his first 848 games, Michael Jordan was averaging 38.57 MPG. During that span he also played 158 playoff games and averaged 41.78 MPG. That's not including 3 years of college ball. That also puts him at the age of 34 years old at the end of the 96-97 playoffs. Jordan played in an era of much more physical defensive basketball... hand checking was allowed, no such thing as defensive 3-seconds, and groups like the Detroit Pistons "Bad Boys" whose sole purpose was to murder people who went to the rim. I can't offer you stats of how many times he was fouled but over those combined 1,006 games, Jordan went to the line an average of 8.88 times a game. Watch the games back then and watch what it means to get hammered every time going to the rim. Add to the fact that Jordan was listed at 6'6" and a mere 195 lbs and it's amazing Jordan even survived... let alone put in over 39 minutes a game (reg + playoffs)

It's a statistical era. Everyone is so focused on stats and MPG.:facepalm

Back in the days, they just played ball. Nobody has their minutes limited just because a stat sheet says it is too high.

Being a one man basketball army in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2014 ... Honestly the guy deserves it.

I see no problem in him conserving himself for the post season run. LeBron has earned reduced wear and tear as far as I'm concerned. He doesn't take entire games off for general soreness like certain players.

Or bail on his country at the last second after making commitments.

I think lebron said the big 3 should get less playing time so the team could gel better and learn to play better together since they have such a deep bench. Obviously some low life who obssesses about Lebron 24/7 would come and twist/spin the whole saying into something completely different. Its these sort of losers who amount to nothing (net negative) in life to themselves and others around them.

He said the exact same thing four years ago when the cHeats were struggling early in their first season together. He said that after a loss, but just one game prior he was playing in garbage time, shamelessly padding his stats. So don't give me that wear & tear bullshit.

I can see why he wants less playing time. Pad those stats in 30 minutes all he can, then sit out the remainder of the game. Bumps his PER up tremendously. He gunning to surpass MJ in career PER.
