Early speculation - he looked easily high enough to dunk and he likely would have in any other situation, but tried to play it safe by laying it up. Appeared unused to attempting a layup while that high off that type of stride.

Edit: Looking again, maybe it was just a bad combination of everything - time winding down, approaching rim very quickly (not slowly even marginally for gather), clock watching, and the yips.
