I hav read a lot of Laker poster talk about how the Lakers will have 30 million in cap space.

After 10 minutes of looking up numbers this is what I found. I am basing Cap holds and potential draft pick salaries. On last years number and those will most likely go up slightly.

Projected Cap in 2015 - 66.5 Million

Players under Salary
Kobe - 25 mi
Nick Young - 5.2 mil
Randle - 3.2
Kelly - 1.7

I will assume that the Lakers will not pick Hills team option and Davis will not pick up his player option

If the Lakers get the 5 th pick the cap hold is 3.2 Mil.

Then you have a Cap Hold of 915,000 per spot up to a 12 man roster so with the draft pick there are 7 cap holds plus 3.2 mil for the pick. Which is 9.6 million

If they loose there pick then there is a cap hold of 7.3 million

So with there pick the cap is already at 43.1

Without it they are at 40.8.

If they loose the pick they are left with Kobe, Swaggy, Kelly, Randle and 25 million.

If they get the 5th pick Kobe, Swaggy, Kelly, Randle, Pick 5 and 22.4 million.

Really not that great with the Cap at 66.5 a max level of 30% starts at about 20 million. So at best you get one max player and fill your team with min contracts.

Or do they resign and sign more 1 yr players and wait till Kobe expires and the Cap goes up.

Kobe + Young + Kelly + Randle + top 5 pick + Max player + vets would make a nice roster.

One of those has to be a starting PG. I'm done with Lin.

Way too inconsistent.

depends on the max player. doesnt look that good IMO. Kobe is washed up, Nick Young have always been ass, Kelly is about as usefull as a steve novak without elite 3pt shooting, Randle seems like a nice player but nothing special.

Could get lucky and end up with a top3 pick

Kobe's averaging 34/5/4 on 44% shooting in the last 3 games
Young is averaging 17 ppg on 48% shooting

Kelly was a top 10 rookie last season
Randle we still don't know, but he has the potential to be a solid starter in this league.

Kobe needs some defenders around him though, I think they will build the roster while thinking about defense 1st. We aren't having trouble scoring the ball, our offense is currently putting up 102 points a game with a 108 ORTG.

For once they have to stop looking for big names and just try to put the right pieces together. Some 3 & D guys , a solid rim protector and some shooters is what Kobe really needs around him. If he has guys that can hit the wide open 3 and guys that can run back on D and give effort on that end, the team would be a lot better off.

Right now, we lack 3pt shooters and we have no one to defend the PG position.

lakers should throw some money rondo, kawhi, butler or maybe r.jackson next summer.

no chance in hell we get a top 5 pick this year...this team will win 30+ games that wont be enough lotteryballs to net that top 5 pick altho crazier things have happened in the draft.

you got randle coming back next year also keep ed davis he will be a beast if he gets his minutes we got enough prospects on this team tbh.

you got lin coming off the books so that gives you atleast 25 mill to work with next summer...should be enough to lure one of those above in:pimp:

Kobe's impact has declined, won't go as far as washed up but on the defensive side alone he's hurting the team. If they add defenders around him it will obviously benefit him and relieve some of that pressure.

Sorry but Swaggy P is a bad basketball player. Not sure why people pretend otherwise.

And last year's draft class was probably one of the worst in recent history. The fact Kelly isn't top 5 should tell you how far off he is from a potential piece.

Dude was a 2nd round pick, if he can give us some minutes off the bench, it's already a big win for us.

Kobe can still in stretches play some great defense. Lakers are currently 10th at forcing turnovers, and Kobe's played a part in it. Problem with him is that he physically isn't good enough to give us great production on both ends, but he shouldn't be defending the opposing team's best player at his age.

And I wouldn't say his defense is that bad, it's actually looked better (he seems more active) than it was for most of the 2012-13 season. A huge issue with the defense has been the fact that we miss on one end and allow a quick basket in transition, defense doesn't even have the chance to set up. We haven't been that bad in half court, really. Guys are going to make 3s when they have their ball movement going, and we've faced one potent 3pt shooting team after another, you'll see him make impact plays on that end against teams like Memphis (where he forced 4 turnovers), teams that don't play at such a high pace.

If you put some good perimeter defenders around Kobe and the team rotates well and communicates on that end, he won't be a problem at all. He isn't an elite defender like he was during his athletic peak, but he has the IQ to force guys into taking tough shots when he's defending the ballhandler.

If the Lakers pick is hIgher there cap space continue to drop. First pick would loose them almost 4 million less

I will believe this when I see it. Just don't see Kobe as that type of person

2015 wet dream: goran $12 mil, Tobias $10 mil and okafor.

Goran, Kobe, Tobias, randle, okafor.

8th playoff spot and a good start for 2016/future.

Get it done Mitch!

If Okafor is the top pick you would loose almost 3 more mil of cap space.

Also is Goran a UFA or RFA.

Orlando would match on Tobias

Lin is great as a 3rd or 4th option.. not as the 2nd best man as it is right now..

Kobe loves Lin's fearlessness and tenacity as well.. Lin will stay

I'm hoping the Lakers make noise in 2016. Maybe they get a guy like Dragic or Rondo this summer and have plenty of room the year after. Kobe off the books and an even bigger cap

Kobe will have a chance for the 6th when cap goes up and he signs a Dirk-like final contract giving LAL even more flexibility. A top 5 pick this year would also help.
