View Full Version : Best PG in the league 2014-2015
Paul? Curry? Westbrook?

Godbrook hasn't laced up for a significant amount of time this season and I'd still go with him. When he returns it will be obvious that no other pointguard in the league matches his in-game impact. Defense and rebounding are two categories where he has an edge over most elite point guards and he is also underrated when it comes to the category of leadership. His intensity rubs off on his teammates and the thunder fell apart in the playoffs seemingly every time he was off the court.

Conley, Lowry and Wall are some point-guards that are deserving of a shout out. We all knew that Wall would be great simply judging off of his final highschool years. Lowry and Conley on the other hand have just been consistent and steady performers for their teams and their play is definitely reflected in the overall records of their teams.

When you factor in expectations the biggest disappointment at the PG position this season is easily Rose. I hate to pile on but it is obvious that he will never be as healthy as he was in his first two seasons. Even the most staunch rose supporters are coming around to this reality. It sucks because when he plays he is as explosive as ever but he just can't seem to stay on the court multiple games in a row. This is to the detriment of the bulls because with Rose they are a legit contender and without him they come up just short.
What do y'all think? Feel free to make the same thread for the other four positions
ESPN's most recent mvp ranking features 4 point-guards highlighting the league's strongest position:

6. Kyle Lowry, Toronto Raptors
(Last week: No. 7)
Arena Link: Kyle Lowry
Kyle Lowry talks about his big night in the Raptors 96-92 win over the Grizzlies.
Lowry wants in on the best-point-guard-in-the-league conversation. If he keeps this up, he'll get what he wants. The Raptors are legit and it is due in large part to Lowry's leadership as the driving force for the best team in the Eastern Conference. He quarterbacked the Raptors to a huge win over the Western Conference-leading Memphis Grizzlies with a signature 18-point, seven-assist, three-rebound, two-steal game (with just one turnover) on Wednesday at the Air Canada Centr.
7. John Wall, Washington Wizards
(Last week: No. 6)
Wall's hot shooting has waned a little. He's shooting just 35 percent over his last five games. But Bradley Beal's return to the rotation couldn't have come at a better time for Wall, whose primary role is serving as the set-up man (32 assists in his last three games) for one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. Wall handled himself well while Beal was out, playing the role of a volume-shooting point guard when that's clearly not the way he prefers to play. Now that he'll get back to his normal role, expect him to be much more comfortable.
9. Steph Curry, Golden State Warriors
(Last week: No. 8)
The topic would have been extremely premature a year ago, but now seems an appropriate time: Steph Curry is firmly entrenched among that top group of the best point guards in the NBA. Few are silly enough any more to argue that Curry isn't a "true" point guard, simply because he's arguably the best shooter in the game. Curry has shown off an improved control of the Warriors' offense, striking just the right balance between scorer and playmaker.
10. Chris Paul, Los Angeles Clippers
(Last week: Not ranked)
Chris Paul Shines vs. Heat
Chris Paul scores 26 points and makes 12 assists to help push the Clippers past the Heat.
After weeks of looking like anything but a contender, Paul has the Clippers back in a groove, of sorts. They still haven't shown off the sort of mettle expected of a team that many picked to win the Western Conference. But that's not because Paul has done anything different. He's been driving the Clippers as hard as usual, leading vocally and by example. You saw what Paul can do for his team Thursday night in Miami. He shredded the Heat for 26 points (8-for-16 shooting, 3-for-5 from deep), 12 assists and just one turnover in 33 minutes of point guard mastery in the Clippers' runaway win.

Westbrook did play this season for a couple games. He had close to a 40point game i think inthe 1st game this year

Troll thread.
Curry has been easily the best.
In terms of performance/winning Conley, Lowry and Lillard are playing solid ball and contribuiting to winning.
Still, this is the relation between performance/winning. Not by talent.

Yeah you're right, I worded that poorly.

?? No troll brother. Curry is a good pick for best PG this year it's just that I personally think westbrook is better and my reasoning is that he is close as a scorer and better as a defender and rebounder with that gap being larger than the gap in scoring.

Again, your thread is 2014-15 right?
How can you put Westbrook there if he only played 1 and 1/10 of a game?
Curry is playing out of his mind right now, his impact is tremendous.
Lowry is playing really well and has great record, Lillard is improving a lot (had a tough matchup against Bradley today), Conley is just a pure leader without any flash substance.. plays basketball, solid basketball.

Goatbrook is #1 when he's healthy, for all he brings to the table. I'd have Curry #2, CP3 #3, and Wall right behind him at #4. Curry is the best offensive PG in the game, Westbrook is the most dominant all-around 2 way PG in the game..scoring, passing, defense, rebounding, etc all factored in. Westbrook can impact a game just being a nightmare defender and rebounder for his position, even if he's having a bad shooting night and/or not finding his teammates..he can completely shut down the opposing PG when he's locked in. That's something Curry, CP3, Lillard, Irving, Parker, etc just cannot do, and Wall is the only one that comes close in that regard. Rose has shown it in spurts since his return from the meniscus injury, but he hasn't stayed healthy enough to show it off.

Curry has the most impact at the PG position. All the advanced stats prove it.
Paul is too passive, usually takes 13 shots even in losses and lets role players take over the offense. He is like a worse version of Lebron. He makes scrubs like Crawford/Reddick look good but stars not so much, Griffin has gotten worse every season now with Paul. Where is that godlike pick n roll we were promised? Meanwhile Curry's teammates are all thriving with him on the court.
Westbrook chucks too much, especially from 3 point range. Maybe if he calms down he can be considered on Curry's level.
Everyone else doesn't matter and is a tier below Curry.

You'd have to say Curry has been the best out of the PGs so far...
That said. CP3 has definitely been the best pure point guard in terms of assists to turnover rate, but this has not amounted to as many wins as Curry's effort has. 1 and 2 Curry and CP3
Rolando

Rondo.....of course.
