ATHLETICISM.

Skill wise? very impressive.

But athleticism wise? He's just a midget running at a decent speed that any NFL player could match.

Football has some of the fastest sports stars in the world. Guys like Theo Walcott were on their way to the Olympics in sprinting before they chose football. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has a faster first 30m than Usain Bolt.

Also Theirry was no slouch back in the day either..

Every sport has their bit of elite. NFL's top end and average are just higher IMO

Throw on 50 more pounds of solid muscle and i doubt any of those soccer speedsters could keep up with the NFL speedsters.

It seems you have athletic ability confused with explosiveness

Well they could if they trained to do so. But they don't because it is borderline useless in their sport. Also lets not pretend there aren't huge guys in football like Yaya Toure who are big as **** but can run very fast.

What's your point? American football is a dumb skilless sport, you just need to pump those PED's to be successful?

We already know that.

NFL has the elite of the elite genetic specimens. How many others sports will you find a guy like Calvin Johnson? Maybe basketball and rugby or volleyball but thats it.

In the end it depends on how you value athleticism. Thats what's being discussed here. Who's more athletic? The 5 foot 7 160 pound soccer player who can run a 4.5 40 yard, or the 6 foot 5 265 pound NFL player who also runs a 4.5 40 yard? I think the answer is pretty simple.

do you have any idea what athleticism means? Balance, body controll, stamina, sprint speed, acceleration, space awereness, eye-feet coordination are all athletic abilities

But the main elements of athleticism are

1. Strength
2. Speed
3. Size

and there are plenty of "athletic" (by your definition) "soccer" players

micah richards (pre-injury) comes to mind. as quick as anyone and built as a tank

Let me say it again.

Size matters. We don't weigh athleticism on the same scale for a 5 foot 11 guy who runs a 4.5 and a 6 foot 8 guy who runs a 4.5. The 6 foot 8 guy IS MORE ATHLETIC. Theoretically a 6 foot 8 guy should not be able to be equally as fast as a 5 foot 11 guy, but nature don't work that way. This is superior genetics.

All I'm saying is elite athletic soccer player don't come close to elite athletic NFL players. The most gifted athletes don't play soccer. This is the elite of the elite. They go to sports where their superior height and limb lengths are put to best use.

No one is debating the point you're trying to make if size, speed strength are your main criteria in determining athleticism. Why do you continue to post about it?

What I love most about football aside from it being the best sport, is that it brings out emotions that you just will not see anywhere else.

Of course soccer players are different athletes (endurance) but I struggle to see ANY soccer player who has the potential to match these NFL guys if they were the same size and had the same training. Bottom line. They are genetically inferior athletes compared to these Nfl guys

Main elements of athleticism are:

1] Stamina
2] Eye-Foot Coordination
3] Sprint Speed

Therefore, these steroid infested NFL "athletes" are genetically inferior to, not only, football athletes, but also field hockey athletes.

Im Still Ballin
11-24-2014, 01:36 PM
Let me reiterate...

Size is not so much an element of athleticism as it is a multiplier. The larger the athlete, the more force that is required for movement.

Strength: the ability to produce force
Speed: the ability to move very rapidly
Endurance: the ability to resist fatigue
Flexibility: The ability to attain large ranges of motion at the joints
Coordination: the ability to move the body in order to accomplish a task

I guess it really comes down to opinion. I think that more explosive, stronger and faster athletes are the most "athletic" and impressive. As would most people. Then you combine that with size.

Chris Johnson ran a sub 4.3 40 if I remember correctly. A shit ton faster would mean being faster than any human being ever. Don't talk out your ass, its not a good look.

Aubameyang, Bolly, and Maybe Prime Eto'o are for sure faster than 4.24 40 yard dash.

But yeah Idk why I wrote a shit ton faster my bad.

The NFL at certain positions definitely put an emphasis on certain athletic traits.

Eg. Power for Oline and DLine
Speed for DB

Dont watch much soccer but I dont think anyone in soccer is stronger than an elite Offensive linemen or faster than an elite cornerback.

With that said from what i have seen of soccer overall i think it requires more skill and less raw physical attributes. Off the top of my head other than "sports" like sprinting and power lifting I cant think of a sport that is more based on raw physical traits than some positions in football.
