Raptors seem to be the outdated reptilian looking ones from old films. No feathers and shit.
They also didn't show the modified Dino. Probably just a weird looking t-rex

I'm hyped as shit for this movie, but damn... Why is it that nowadays all CGI seems to be so... Cleanish? Everything looks shiny, polished, and void of faults. It just looks like everything is made of plastic. I feel the same way whenever I'm watching the Hobbit movies, although I do enjoy them. I found the CGI in the first Jurassic Park to be way more believable than anything I saw in this trailer.

thats because the first movie used alot of practical effects too. some of the best dinosaur scenes in that movie were done with puppets

Yup i know, but even the CGI Dinosaurs are still looking good today.

The color grading is a big part of it. Making everything blue/orange and looking like Battleship isn't helping at all. Grounding the camera in a believable place also helps. Using colors and tones (regardless of color grading) that are more earthy would help sell this even more. They missed the mark on the entire look. JP1/2/3 looked more earthy and had grit and felt like real life with dinos inserted. This feels like Marvel or Avatar. Disappointing.

This is true. I think people also exaggerate the idea that the first film held up as well as it did. The T-Rex break scene with the roar is amazing mostly because it's at night but if you look at the brachiosaurus scene during the day, it looks pretty bad now. It's very cartoony.
CGI today does look stupid, too. Check out the 2011 prequel Thing where it's completely CGI. Looks mostly awful. Some parts are flat out laughable and look like PS4 cutscenes. The practical effects of the 82 film are clearly better and it's fvcked up because they originally intended to use practical effects and actually had it made but got pressured into using CGI.

And there lies the problem. CGI should only be used when absolutely necessary, but instead it is used because it is cheap and easier. As mentioned earlier, the best scenes of Jurassic Park were the practical effects. If the original was made today, even a ton of the scenes with practical effects would be done with worse looking CGI.

CGI isn't actually cheaper, from what I understand. It's used because you can do a ton of things with it that are simply not possible with practical effects. Practical effects are good for stationary or close up effects but movements, usually inhuman, are a drag to make. There are a lot of stuff you simply cannot recreate with practical effects, for better or worse.

as much as I appreciate cgi, i've always believed it is best used to enhance practical effects instead of being the sole source of special effects.

Abrams said they used tons of real sets instead of CGI for Star Wars 7, if they really avoid using CGI and the movie is a success i hope Hollywood will use traditional effects more often.

CGI is far cheaper for big budget movies. Animation companies generally get screwed and a few have gone bankrupt right after doing a big film ( I think the team that did life of pie or whatever with the tiger had this happen). It's just so competitive and a lot of CGI companies end up having to take a lowball offer just to get the contract.
The CGI in that trailer looks pretty poor. Some scenes in the original haven't held up well but they looked good upon release and the practical effects parts still look great, this movie looks like SCIFY channel CGI and it hasn't even released yet :facepalm . I was super pumped for this, still am I guess, but it doesn't look as great as I expected.

Watched it this morning, and thought the visuals were fantastic. Story was kinda garbled but its, in my opinion, a step above the previous 2 for sure.
Pratt and the indian man who played the owner of the park were the only likable characters to me, but it still worked out. For a movie theater 'experience' (see it in IMAX trust me), I would give it a solid 7/10. The original JP is still the perfect movie for this sort of plot.

How I felt too.
Far too similar, but I still really enjoyed it. I would have liked it to be a bit more free standing in terms of being its own movie, and actually progressing some of the story in a direction, but all good. Interesting concept, good action scenes, and a few tweaks and different spins on already solid ideas from the movies before it. Can't complain, since I knew what was coming, and pretty much everyone does.

I did however enjoythe scene where they pay homage to spielbergs film by bringing out the original t rex. It felt like in terminator salvation when they have the original arnold terminator come out.

What aspects of the original are better than this movie?
The story/plot are the exact same... The acting/writing is equally bad
So that leaves us with dinosaur action (all we should care about anyway) where Jurassic World completely demolishes the original...in 3D even
The only thing the original has on this movie is the fact that it is the original.

Jurassic Park special effects are better. Remember the very first scene of Jurassic World where the egg is breaking open? It looked fake, it was just a little computer graphic, Jurassic Park's egg opening scene was a better done and more realistic. The scene where they were holding the dying dinosaur? Looked like a computer graphic again, much worse than the physical special effects of Jurassic Park where they are examining the sick dinosaur up close.
Acting was better in the first one. Story was better in the first one.
Jurassic World was a pretty cool movie but it was no where as good as the original.

It was good but it wasn't exactly incredible. Personally i look for movies with a good story, this was basically thr same plot as the original just with different actors and a different set.
I did however enjoythe scene where they pay homage to spielbergs film by bringing out the original t rex. It felt like in terminator salvation when they have the original arnold terminator come out.
I didn't watch this movie for the story, I watched to see dinosaurs do some cool shit and they did

Let's be real though other than the say, the T-rex in the original and maybe a few others the creatures in the Jurassic Park series aren't really dinosaurs so much as they are hollywood monsters. Most don't really fit what was then, or now known about dinosaurs.

Yeah, I hate Spielberg's movies with a passion (except A.I.), but they deserve credit for the way they are shot. Most of the stuff shown in the original is animatronics, and the CGI is used in wide shots, which makes it look a lot cleaner.
Acting is much better (Laura Dern and Sam Neil have good chemistry, I've always been a Jeff Goldblum fan, and the minor characters like Samuel L's and Wayne Knights's work really well).
Writing doesn't even compare. The sub-plots in the new film take on too many tones. Even when the characters are separated in the original, they are all dealing with the same problem (more or less), which keeps the feeling of slight dread consistent.
This whole reboot/remake culture is starting to get out of hand. Studios know it's a low risk move (making movies for people who are invested in comic book characters or remaking successful old movies) so they churn them out like it's nobody's business.
Originality in Hollywood is dying. I'm just thankful that the Internet allows us to see more independent and foreign films.

If you paid attention to the new movie, they clearly make a reference to the fact that the dinosaurs recreated aren't really dinosaurs

this is an autistic styled post, they are dinosaurs, you can say they aren't accurately depicted I guess but they are still dinosaurs.

I get the criticisms. Plot was thin, writing was mediocre, everyone except for Pratt and BDH were mostly forgettable. Brother storyline was cringeworthy at times and Insidious kid f*cking sucks. Irrfan Khan means well but you can understand him like 40% of the time at best.
But I don't see how you could come away totally hating it unless you went in there with a shit mentality, stubborn and totally convinced it's going to suck. It's a decent movie at worst imo and you have to try hard to be an overzealous film critic about it to really really hate it. I don't know what profound, groundbreaking, mind numbing storytelling and writing you guys were expecting...it wasn't Schindler's List or the Shawshank Redemption or the original but it wasn't garbage.
The I. Rex is sick. Really curious where they go from here.

They said it in the first one too, I'm aware - in first one during the cartoon they say they replaced missing DNA with bits of frog DNA and what not.
Whether as one poster pointed out that it sounds autistic or not, my inner childhood dinosaur geek just compels me to say they 'aren't dinosaurs' :D

The movie was fine but people calling it a reboot or a remake must be not be paying any kind of attention. That movie was not a remake nor a reboot but another movie entirely. It pays homage to the original but not the same movie as the old one.
Nevertheless this movie is a prequel of whats to come as there is no more park in the future anyways.

I enjoyed it. It is a summer blockbuster, I don't go in expecting amazing plot. Like last year, I enjoyed Godzilla even though we barely saw him.

What was it about the part when they talked about how the dinosaur is white? It didn't really appear to be that white to me, or was it because of its ability to camouflage :lol

People be going to this movie and expecting a Titanic plot and not just to expect dinosaurs and explosions. Then get they disappointed for the sake of it.

I thought the best part was when the new dinosaur first escapes it's pen. It hits you with some unpredictable action and starts the suspense of what is going to happen now that the new dinosaur is roaming the tourist filled park.

Wtf. Did you some of you guys expect some Tarantino level shit out of this movie? :lol
I really enjoyed it tbh. I don't think of it as much of a sequel but a reboot, and it's clearly very similar to the original JP. I thought it was pretty good though. The ending scene with the two, no, three, no, four different dinosaurs was insane.
Good, fun summer blockbuster. Didn't have an original plot with incredible writing and acting, but I didn't expect that going in. Loved Pratt in this though, and BDH was hot as hell.
