View Full Version : Even Thibs says Rose needs to be out there. Trouble with Bulls management?

Thibs response last night when a reporter asked him why Rose looked winded out there in the 3rd quarter was that Rose needs to get out there and play. Bulls management like Paxson and Forman are trying to stay cautious with Rose but Thibs says that Rose and Gasol need to be out there and this team needs to develop chemistry. Thibs says that injuries can happen at any time. I agree. Enough being this cautious with Rose. If he gets injured again he gets injured again. It would suck. But he needs to be out there playing.

Now is not the time to stop being cautious with Rose. If it's after the all-star break and the Bulls organization and Derrick are still being cautious, then we have a serious problem.

As for Gasol, he's 34...caution is very important.

Excellent post - agree with every word of it. Rush this guy back before he is ready and we stand the chance of losing him for good - championship hopes down the drain.

Personally, I would hate to see him become Brandon Roy. Let him come back at his own pace. He has been away from the game for 2 years and has a newly reconstructed body that he has to get used to. This season... the minor injuries he has suffered are real. We all saw how awkwardly he turned his leg 4 games ago - could have been real ugly. You don't want him nursing and favoring new injuries as comes back from multiple surgeries.

Let him break back in slowly during the first half of the season and ramp up after the all-star break. Championships are not won in November. Everyone needs to chill and trust Derrick to know when his own body is ready.

As for Gasol... Thibs needs to take the pedal off the gas this early. This guy is 34. Lower his minutes a little and let him take time off when his body does not feel right. We need this guy at his best come playoff time.

Well alrighty then... after tonight, just more proof that Rose knows his own body better than anyone. All the trainers and Thibs have started to lose a little patience with him and have told him to just go play but he knew he was not right. Now that he is injured again we see who really knew more about his own health.

On the flip side, without a doubt it is frustrating:banghead: ... but we have to ride or die right now with Rose because without him we have no shot at a ring. Period. Criticizing him, throwing him under the bus and turning against him will only put more pressure on him and management to rush him back before he is ready -- which will lead to him getting seriously injured again. This is frustrating as hell but we have to ride it out and support our own.

Haters like Skip Bayless be damned!

He'll probably miss another 10 games now.

Ridiculous. He needs to get out there and play. Players play through these things. He's having all this soreness likely because he's not in game shape. He hasn't played a full season since 2011. The 2012 season was short, he missed all of 2013 and nearly all of 2014. He has to learn to play through some of this.

Under normal circumstances I would agree with you. But Rose has already shown that if you rush him back while he is favoring an injury it just leads to more injuries. Now is not the time to panic by rushing him out there before his body is ready. The guy suffered real injuries this year that we all saw. Let him heal from those injuries first. Its just the first half of the season. If this continues after the all-star break then I will be the first one to join in with you.

Truth is, none of us know what's going on in roses head or what the true situation is.

We can all devise our own conclusions, but at the end of the day he is more valuable to us in the playoffs and if it means going through all this bullshit to have him then, well then I'll take it.

2 serious injuries. You can't compare him to just any other injured guy. He has a lot of mental scars to overcome also.

Bulls brass know what's up. If they thought for a second he was of no value, they would trade him. Rose knows he needs to play, but he also knows he is no good for the team if he isn't 100%

His game is so reliant on athleticism. Carrying injuries into games will have a negative effect.

Why can't he be no good if he is not 100%, Some players now are not 100% and yet they play. You don't even have to look elsewhere. Kirk, Noah, Butler have some minor issues.
The thing is, his value will be less in the playoffs if he is rusty and have very limited time getting used to playing with Pau, Mirotic, heck even Dunleavy and Butler, whom he barely played with the past 2 yrs.
I don't know about you but I actually believe that Rose can still contribute even if he is less athletic. Ron Harper was going to be the next Mj till that Major injury. But he fought on and became a good court general for the Bulls and Lakers.

Please don't read this as sarcasm, but don't you think the Bulls would be more concerned if he was pulling this after the Allstar break? Therefore allow him to slowly work his way into the season and sit out games less and less as the season rolls on?

If he is able to play a majority of the games halfway through the season and onwards, I think that is more than enough time to build the chemistry needed. While the Bulls maintain a pretty solid record, we can afford him to take it easy for a month.

You have to look at all the pros and cons. Rose will be managed with cottonwool until it's no longer beneficial to do so, and when the team will actually need him to play consistently. I actually believe this is the best way to have him ready to go for the playoffs and protect him as much as possible from any serious injuries.

We actually need Rose to be 100% for the playoffs. The margin for error on this team is minimal, because of how much we need and rely on Rose to impact the game. Sure, the regular season we can get by, but once we encounter teams playing with more intensity on defense, guys like Rose become that much more important.

Finally, Rose is very much reliant on his athleticism. Without it, we don't get the freakish speed and ability to penetrate teams defenses on a regular basis. What we will get instead is a timid Rose worried about his knees and playing passive.
