This looks like it's gonna be created like the original trilogy, with animatronics, puppets and old school screen wizardry with only hints of CGI. I trust JJ to do a fine job since he's a Star Wars geek himself.

And although I refuse to watch the Star Trek films, I've heard great feedback from Trekkies.

So this teaser trailer is the definition of a glimpse.

I like that one of the protagonists is a storm trooper. The X-wing shot was pretty cool. Not sure if I dig the new lightsaber design, but it's not that important to me. And I think Tatooine is done to death, but we already knew that was going to be a location. Come on, there are a bazillion planets yo, why use the boring desert planet for every movie? (spoilers if you want to go into it blank.)

At first glance the lightsaber looks goofy, but now that I look at it it's badass! I can't wait to see how they use it in the film.

The CGI looks spot on, it doesn't look like the crap that Jurassic Park displayed. Love the conventional effects mixed with CGI and real locations, no green screen crap. That was a natural lighting in that dessert, those were real woods, that was real water and real sand that they were flying over (or so they appear to be).

Spectacles/action-wise, it's gonna be a fun film like the 2009 Star Trek. But I'm going to say this again (as a personal assumption):

Hunger Games in Space.

Also, trailer dialogue was pretty darn corny.

Also again, CGI looks amazing.

Furthermore, I'm going to guess:

Lead character is going to be a Katniss clone....young female enviable by all her peers and part of new generation 'chosen' by force but refuses destiny type stuff.

Black guy will be either force sensitive newbie or Han Solo's replacement...maybe both, not sure yet.

We'll see the 'old guys' doing their stuff and it'll give us goosebumps but I get the feeling it's going to feel more like an overextended cameo than make those old characters relevant to the plot. The exception will be Luke.

It looks like Luke will be the one doing the bulk of the lightsaber dueling (since everybody else appears to be new to it). He'll become Obi-wan for the new generation (except he won't die....hopefully).

Stormtroopers/blasters/fighters/droids will have modifications to them which makes sense, as it'll be the future.

Looks like the Empire will have remnant forces that want to plot a coup over the current Republic.

The most important part of a cross-guard is the corner. That's where the blade is supposed to catch. For lightsaber in the trailer, the corners are made of metal, which has no effective stopping power against a lightsaber.

Also, a lightsaber is a roundish blade, like a fenching sabre. An effective guard for that is a round guard, like you would see in fencing. And if it were actually effective, all lightsabers should have it, no?

Again, part of the crossguard could be made of lightsaber resistant material(exists), maybe the design is just there to represent some form of cross, maybe it's just a silly design that was made up on the spot. In the end, this is fantasy and lightsabers are impractical and make no sense to begin with, we're talking about laser swords here.

If it's lightsaber resistent material that opens up lightsaber armor and shields. Just seems lame to me. And why isn't the entire guard made out of said material then?

I think she might be, though it's no longer canon, I assume Ridley plays Solo and Leia's daughter who was a Jedi in the books after the movies finished. It would make sense if she was.

Though the narrator says "There's been an awakening, have you felt it?" Right as Boyega appears on screen, which makes me think that he's the one the force awakens for.

1. Boyega is a storm trooper, and the force has awaken in him. This is weird though because the clones must have been discontinued at least at the start of episode 4. Because all clones were of Boba Fett and Boyega... Clearly isn't Boba Fett. This only makes sense if the clones weren't being made (or ran out) and they ended up recruiting regular dudes.

2. Earlier point about the clones, maybe Boyega was captured by the Empire (Which is still intact after the fall of Vader and Sideous) took a storm trooper suit but ended up stranded on what I assume is Tatooine, and the force awakens in him as before.

At first glance the lightsaber looks goofy, but now that I look at it it's badass! I can't wait to see how they use it in the film.

The CGI looks spot on, it doesn't look like the crap that Jurassic Park displayed. Love the conventional effects mixed with CGI and real locations, no green screen crap. That was a natural lighting in that dessert, those were real woods, that was real water and real sand that they were flying over (or so they appear to be).

He doesn't even use his lightsaber any more, he's more of an all powerful Wizard- the most powerful being the Universe has ever seen. Something happened that caused him to fear his power though. He puts himself into self-imposed exile in Dagobah so he can't be a threat to the Galaxy if he potentially turns to the Dark Side like his father.

Meanwhile on a remote ice planet, some evil characters are busy building a weapon that will make the Death Stars look like a BB gun.

Luke coming out of exile (the light) and the growing threat from the new Sith (the Dark) is possibly what the 'awakening' refers to.

I think I remember reading too that it's possible that by the end of Episode 7, Luke ends up turning to the Dark Side and ends up being the main villain in the next installment(s). I think that's a great plot point... but I don't know how I feel about it considering the iconic ending of ROTJ.

First 3 I grew up watching on VHS. I was 12, 15, and 18 when the prequels came out. Still young, still fascinated with the allure of Star Wars.

The prequels definitely seem to have a higher cringe/content ratio than the first movies (though Return of the Jedi's Ewok scenes and the Jabba puppets are pretty much just as bad now IMO). Episode one's shit didn't even bother me when I first saw it, I was 12. The god awful romance of the 2nd episode definitely made me cringe the first time I saw it, and by the third movie I had begun to lose interest in Star Wars movies though I still enjoyed it.

What I've learned is, there are great sequences in all the movies... but there are also horrible cringeworthy or childish scenes in all the movies. The older you get, the more you notice them. The movies are just like their awkard teenage intended audience. They are an amalgam of stuff anyone including adults can find cool but there are also plenty of other characters or effects only a child would ignore or come to appreciate.

This movie will be no different. Only now, the target audience is the Call of Duty/Superhero movie generation, of which I do not identify with. There will be cool effects... but lots of cringe stuff too. It's Star Wars. That's what Star Wars is. Wizard of Oz meets Muppets in Space. Only now there will be a heavy Call of Duty influence which I don't really care for.

Considering that Disney also owns Marvel, and films like Avengers and Captain America winter soldier have come out since, I'm not concerned about their involvement. They evolved past Mickey and Donald quite a while ago...plus JJ Abrams with serenity, firefly, stark trek reboot has proven( at least to me) that he should be given the benefit of doubt that he will do the franchise no harm. Plus, there's so much good EU content out that they can draw from that, or come up with new ideas as needed.

Lucas's vision for the series is a bit scary to me, considering films like phantom menace and Attack of the clones came out on his watch, IMO the series needed an infusion of fresh blood and ideas and writers/artists who weren't just 'yes' people which is why the PT went off the tracks.

Lucas wrote some outlines, but he didn't write the Screenplay for Empire Strikes Back, and he didn't write the novel either, so it's more likely that other people assembled his sloppy notes into something coherent.

4chan Spoiler Man leaks about the plot. Likely it's all BS, it could all be true. So don't read it if you don't want to get spoiled or don't want to get fooled. Personally I think it sounds pretty good, wouldn't mind if this was actually the movie.[COLOR="White"]

Read on at your own risk.
- The film is dystopian and darker than Empire. Some 30-40 years have passed since Return of the Jedi, and the Empire and New Republic have been locked in a war of attrition. Everyone is languishing and sick of the war. The script, which is described as "too good for JJ Abrams", begins in space, above a desert planet -- presumably Tatooine.
-The opening crawl details the ongoing turmoil in the galaxy. How the fall of the Emperor left a void of power, and how the heroes of Endor went into seclusion or kept fighting.
-The current state of the war is described as being similar to the European theater of 1944, with the Empire being Germany and the Republic being the Allies. The Republic has finally taken the upper hand.
-John Boyega and Daisy Ridley are the male and female leads.
-Boyega is a force-sensitive Stormtrooper under command of Gwendoline Christie's character. He defects from the Empire over the course of the movie, ending up stranded on a desert planet (presumed to be Tatooine) during the first act. Having defied orders, Boyega is hunted as a deserter.

-Gwendoline Christie portrays an Inquisitor. The Inquisitors are a group of lightsaber wielding individuals that may or may not be force sensitive and head up the Imperial Remnant. Inquisitors aren't Sith, but they are not Jedi either; they are hounds used to track down force sensitives, and they are implied to have assisted Vader's cleansing.

-Daisy plays Kira, a character living on Tatooine with Max Von Sydow's character. Kira is a dusty survivalist tomboy. Sydow is a broken man from the prequel area that has become mostly cyborg. He is not force sensitive and for some reason collects artifacts that we've seen at critical points during the previous films, particularly ones relating to the Jedi and the Sith. Daisy shares his fascination with history, and she is revealed in Act II to be the daughter of Han and Leia. As someone with force sensitivity, she resents the fact that Luke went into exile before he could train her, and she hopes that the search for force-sensitive artifacts could lead her to him. She keeps her identity as a Solo under wraps in order to keep trouble away.

-Sydow is a sort of mentor to Kira, and apparently his true identity is an Act III revelation that will surprise a lot of people. The contention is that he is an existing character from the prequel films, and the revelation of his identity will shock viewers.
-Sydow's character is "not overtly" a villain, but has some sort of Sith connection.
-Sydow's "hideout" is a downed AT-AT. Relics of the war are everywhere in the film; there is a real feeling that the entire galaxy is sick of the deadlock.

-The blue lightsaber in the above picture is apparently the same one Luke lost on Bespin in Empire.
-The ball droid from the trailer belongs to Kira.
-On the desert planet (again, presumably Tatooine) Boyega meets up with Daisy and Sydow. At the end of the first act, Han Solo and Chewbacca take them all off planet in the Millennium Falcon. Shortly afterward, we learn that "Kira" is Han and Leia's daughter. Again, she keeps her identity secret to avoid unwanted trouble.
-Kira's revelation dumbfounds Boyega and "other people."
-Chewbacca's life debt extends to Han's whole family, and he is now sporting a robotic arm.

-Han takes a liking to Boyega. Throughout the film he is in love with Boyega's decision to defy orders and ruin his career in the Imperial military. -Han vouches for Boyega, having gone through something similar in his youth.
-At some point, Han says the familiar "Hey, it's me!" line. Someone, of course, says the classic "I have a bad feeling about this." These are said to be the only self-referential "smile while rolling your eyes" lines of the film.
-When asked whether Han dies, Spoiler Man replied that he will "not spoil the third act." This in and of itself does not reveal anything, but rather comes off as Spoiler Man being audacious, because answering the question is such a way would spoil the third act, if it were true.
-Lando's Sullustan co-pilot from Return of the Jedi, Nien Nunb, makes a humorous appearance.
-Lando is in the script and has apparently become famous.
-Luke Skywalker has secluded himself from the galaxy, training only a handful of students since his exile. He fears for his future; as he comes closer to Yoda levels of power, he becomes more and more secluded. There are no Jedi in the open, but rumors persist that Luke has trained a few since the events of Endor.
-Luke first appears in Act II
