View Full Version : Kobe Bryant: 'I've Never Heard' Tony Allen Ask for Help on Defense

"He’s fundamentally sound defensively and he plays harder than everybody else defensively. He has a competitive desire to compete individually. That’s very uncommon. Most defensive players I face want help all the time. I’ve never heard him ask for help. He likes taking the challenge."

Tony Allen was the reason why Lebron's 09-10 Cavs lost to the Celtics. Bran couldn't do shit against Tony 1-one-1 and people wanna act like Lebron didn't get enough help.

Yeah Tony Allen is good, but the whole consept of never asking for help is not very relevant in a team game imho.

Not surprised Kobe likes a guy who allegedly doesn't depend on team mates lol :lol

i disagree. it takes a lot of pressure off of your teammates to be that good and independent on the defensive end imo

Are you retarded? LeBron was mostly covered by Piece, and put up like 27/9/7 or so

Are you retarded? Lebron was mostly scared to death seeing Tony sitting at the bench. GTFO with that garbage stat Chinese scrub Lin could do the same with the ball in his hand 99.99999999% of the time.

Could not disagree more, having someone like Allen to guard 1 on 1 without needing help is incredibly valuable. It's like putting together a shattered glass..an elite offensive player like a Kobe, a Durant, a Lebron, Wade, etc can completely collapse a team defense and draw so much attention that it makes everyone around them more of a threat..but when someone like Tony Allen can step in and zone in on that dude 1 on 1 with zero help..it puts the pieces back together in your team defense, allows everyone on your team to play naturally on defense. Allen is the quintessential glue guy that every team needs, the guy who only takes what he's given on offense but holds everything together defensively on the perimeter. There's a reason Memphis has such a vicious defense, they have guys like Allen who don't need help, which in turn allows everyone else to play even tighter on their guys.

well yeah, because not everybody has the mentality that he does.

he's not tony allen just because he's 6'4, has a 6'9 wingspan, and is athletic.... otherwise the league would be loaded with tony allens.

Pierce was the main defender on Bran but Tony Allen was assign the task of guarding him while Pierce rest. I didn't say he guarded your girl Miss Bron the entire time but why would he need to when thinking of Tony Allen already scares Bran to death. Bran was like "Oh shit what to do now? My charges won't work against this guy. My shots won't fall against this guy. I can't ISO. I can't shoot fadeaways. F*ck the victory it's all about my STAT!" :oldlol:

Where did you dream this up? Any moment Tony Allen tried to guard Lebron he looked like a ragdoll, he is way to small/weak to get away with anything against him, the only good or more like smart defensive play i ever seen him do on Lebron 1on1 was this one time he "pulled the chair" on him after Lebron has been basically backing him down 24-7...... he is a horrible mismatch for him.... this is not a skinny/weaker SF (Durant) or a guy around his frame (Kobe)......

I absolutely love Tony Allen, amazing defensive intensity, best guard defender, dont get me wrong, but he is a mouse in the house against PF bodies, especially someone with tools like Lebron....

And these stats don't even really show Tony's true impact. I don't mind if anyone put Tony in the top 5 while kicking any of those 2 listed out. He's that great defensively to me.

Lebron is the only player i've seen who can dominate Tony Allen. Too small to guard Lebron.

LeBron was HORRENDOUS in that series. Look at their 4 losses

24/7/4 1 TOV 7-15 FGA
22/9/8 4 TOV 7-18 FGA
15/6/7 3 TOV 3-14 FGA
27/19/10 9 TOV 8-21 FGA in what most call the most empty triple double ever

Oh my god it's the infamous pauk!!! Stop insulting Tony Allen you hypocrite your overrating of Queen Jame's offensive is pathetic. If JJ Barea can lock down Bran then Bran is a mouse in the house against Tony Allen. :oldlol:

Tony Allen cannot guard lebron in the post. Last season while Durant was struggling to post Tony Allen, lebron was man handling him like a rag doll in the post like a small child:oldlol:
