View Full Version : Is Durant the MVP favorite right now?

This question might seem nuts, but bear with me. I truly believe Durant is the MVP favorite, here is why
Noone has separated themselves from the field and it has been a down year for the MVP to date. Davis looked promising, but his team and individual numbers are fading. LeBron looks like shit and the leaders(Gasol/Curry) will end with mediocre numbers. In addition OKC has been garbage to date, but this isn't only due to Durant being injured. Obviously Westbrook has missed nearly as much time and the entire team has been littered with injuries. However, Durant will be the last player to return(which will probably be in the next few days) and he will gain all the credit for the OKC turnaround. Even if they win 3 in a row with Westbrook's return pre-Durant, the narrative will be OKC went 7-12 without Durant and 45-8 with him, or whatever they finish. And Durant will put up Durant 30/8/5 50/40/90 type numbers. Given all of the above, if I were forced to put money on a player to win the MVP today, my money would go on Kevin Durant. For this reason, I believe he is the favorite for the MVP despite not having stepped foot on the court this season.

Judging from todays game it is clearly Westbrook's team

Durant will go down the road Derrick Rose did. 1 MVP, downhill from there.
History has no place for KD.

Steph Curry or Marc Gasol

Yes, he is. Said it earlier, got negged for it. But yeah, he's the favorite.
Would be a tragedy if they give it to someone like Curry. Hopefully the voters take into account how awful OKC was without him and how dominant they are with him, and how dominant he is from an individual standpoint. I'm sure he'll have the most impressive advanced stats again this year too. And his raw numbers will be eye popping.
MVP or not, Durant is easily the best player at the moment. No ones close.

How on earth will Curry end with mediocre numbers? He'll be at like 25/8 on like 60% TS. Far from mediocre.

Sorry, mediocre numbers compared with Durant. Who will be around 30/8/5 50/40/90 65 TS% .300 WSp48 30 PER

He's the unquestionable best player on the planet, so yes.
The rest of the competition will blend together and cancel eachother out.

Curry is a fragile guy, mentally and physically.
I don't think he can make it through the whole season without getting injured or going through a major shooting slump.

As long as they make the playoffs MVP is a lock. If not, it's going to Kobe.

god u r such a d rider
after westbrook's legendary performance last night you decided to make this thread? lmao. it's been clear that westbrook is capable of carrying this team to the finals by himself, without durant, so how does make durant mvp again? ever since 2012 i knew okc was going as far as westbrook takes them, clear cut leader of the team.

Exactly! In the 2012 Finals Durant put up 30 ppg on 54%, and yet he had ZERO impact in the series. :oldlol: OKC goes as Westbrook goes, and since he played like shit outside of his 43 point game 4 the Thunder lost in five games.

The terminology implies that if the MVP voting was to be carried out today, Durant would win. Durant wouldn't even get a vote, so clearly you need to rethink your title.

What in the f**k of all f**ks are you even basing this on? Westbrook is a damn good player, probably one of the five best players in the league. But what evidence do you even have to make that ridiculous claim?

Trying to remember the last time the MVP missed more than 17 games.

I'd rather have Westbrook because he's a million times more entertaining...but you can't go wrong with Durant

It's always interesting to watch the evolution of a fanbase. Durant stans have now reached the point where their guy is the best in the world, and are being absolute bitches about it. Soon the ringless Durant memes will begin.

**** being classy about it.
We have the best guy in the world and we let everyone know it, and will continue to do so for a very long time.
OKC fans run the forum. Get used to it, kiddo.

everyone is saying shit like this but you know the first time durant comes back and puts up a 50+ point scoring game hitting clutch baskets thats exactly what its gonna be dubbed as... "an MVP performance from Durant."
He's simply the best player on the planet.

You're asking if Durant is the MVP favorite RIGHT NOW, and all you're doing is predicting how well he's going to play IN THE FUTURE.
So no, he's not the MVP RIGHT NOW. Not even fvcking close to being the MVP right now. Kobe, playing on the worst team in the west, has a better case for MVP than Durant...RIGHT NOW.
