The Toronto Raptors expect to lose guard DeMar DeRozan for about a month after he tore a tendon in his groin, a league source told Yahoo Sports.

The Raptors will have a more definitive timeline for DeRozan's recovery period after DeRozan is re-examined in a week.

sample sizes are too small. doesn't take into account strength of opponent, etc.

Just before the Portland game, current sample size.

Good news is, DeRozan is close returning. He's practicing on the current road trip and January 8th vs Charlotte seems like the date the Raptors are targeting for his comeback.

Good chart there. Surprisingly DeRozan impacts the game on the defensive side of the ball a lot, for a poor defender. I could see the rationale for the offensive rating being lower when he is on the floor because he does take a lot of contested shots.

He's a good help defender and a so-so man defender. Shouldn't really get the poor or liability label as a defender, IMO. Another reason is that more minutes for Lou and Vasquez (as well Ross's regress in defense) shows that our wing defense as really gone south. DeMar looks like prime Bruce Bowen compared to those guys on defense. Doesn't help that Fields got injured too, leaving only James Johnson as our only above average defender.

As for the ORTG, completely agree but it's not sustainable. Especially since they are beating some weak teams during this stretch.

Kinda disappointed with TRoss, and Jonas to a lesser degree. They had a chance to step up with Derozan sitting but didn't.

Looks like we'll have to wait just a little longer for Demar.

Before the Charlotte game (numbers are going to be worse after tonight), these were the total updated stats with and without DeMar.

Whether you want to call him a good individual 1 on 1 defender on not, 19 games is a large enough statistical sample to me (1/4 of a season) to say that we are overall clearly much worse on the defensive end without him.
