What are your top 3 games of the year?

1. The Last of Us
2. NBA 2K15
3. None I've played that are worthy :facepalm

This was a shitty year for gaming, imo. Most of my top anticipated games were either pushed back or flopped.

I haven't played Dragon Age: Inquisition but plan on getting it at Christmas. Didn't play Infamous: Second Son either, so that won't be on the list.

Last of Us came out in 2013...

Mine is Shadow of Mordor. I'll be honest and say I knew nothing about it, and laughed at my friend when he was talking how cool it looked, just based on the fact all the other LOTR games I've seen prior looked trash.
Then I ended up getting it in a bundle that was gifted to me by my GF and I gave it a go. Freaking amazing. Like a better version of Assassins with Batman fighting mechanics. Can't ask for much more. She said she tried to swap it for another game because she didn't think I'd like it, which I initially agreed with, but I'm so glad she didn't.

It came out Remastered on PS4 this year.

Inquisition for me, but that might just be that it's new for me and freshest in my mind. I'm 65 hours in now. :oldlol:

Haven't really played anything but that or 2k though. Slow year.

1. Dragon Age Inquistion
2. Sunset Overdrive
3. Alien: Isolation
4. Mario Kart 8
5. Evil within

I haven't played Mordor yet so that could shake up my list.

This is probably the least I've played games in a year in my entire video game playing life.

But the game I probably had the most fun playing this year has been Plants v Zombies: Garden Warfare. The multiplayer on that is crazy.

The Last of Us, the PS3 version came out in 2013, so can't say that.

Dragon Age 3 for me, shit is astounding.

Binding of Isaac Rebirth
Mario Kart 8
Bayonetta 2
Shantae and the Pirates Curse
Shovel Knight
Persona Q
Bravely Default

Some of my favorites from this year. If I had to choose one I'd probably pick Rebirth as I've already sunk a good amount of time into that one and will likely continue to do so for a while yet.

Halo 5 and Arkham Knight just to name a couple...

GameInformer is doing their top 50 challenge thing at the moment. It's something they came up with where the various editors will "challenge" other editors to play a game they have in their personal top 50 for a weekend. Then the challeng-y will come back and write a bit on it.

I read the AC Unity one the yesterday mainly because I'm playing that at the moment. It was the same reviews I've read everywhere else. A lot of good. Some laughably bad quirks.

Then in the comments there's a wave of people berating the game for coming out so buggy, and saying no way should it make anyone's top fifty. I agree that it's a sham it came out needing as many patches as it did. But I've been playing pretty heavy for two weeks, and I found nothing to be game breaking. I've gotten stuck a time or two and had to fast travel out. I've seen NPC's dropping from a story above for some reason. But generally it's played. I'll also agree that the format is getting a little stale. I really liked Black Flag because I felt like the pirating was an interesting new mechanic.

Anyway, my point was, these guys are complaining about it making a top FIFTY! Fifty is a big number. I probably didn't play ten games this year. Even with the bugs, this was a big, ambitious game, and does a lot of cool stuff. Making a top 50 would have to yield a lot of less than perfect games.

I took a stab at Mordor, just couldn't get into it. I felt like it just dropped me too hard in the middle of this upgrading mess, and I never got into it enough to play it to where I'm sure it gets good.

Evil Within I played much more of, but I dropped that too at about chapter three, which may be a bigger indictment.

I played a couple small Downloadable things. That Spy game I liked.

But I mean fifty is a lot of games.

And I don't know where they count this stuff, but if we're talking literally things that were released this year, GTAV Remastered, TLoU Remastered, and Tomb Raider Remastered should all make any list.

I just can't get into the Assassin's Creed games. I tried with AC2 and Black Flag and I really gave them a chance but quit right before the halfway mark.

I enjoyed the hell out of the Evil Within. The first few chapters feel a lot like the Last of Us with a lot of stealth needed. The remaining chapters felt more like Resident Evil 4. It's still a challenging game, but you learn to adjust with proper upgrades. This game took me 25 hours to complete with 155 deaths. It was a very satisying gaming experience.

I also have an unopened copy of Mordor. I enjoy these type of games.....so this one might be up there for me in terms of GOTY.

I could still see myself going back to Evil Within, which is unusual for me. Generally once I'm out I'm out. But it was going relatively well. The upgrading just seemed like a mess was probably my biggest complaint.

Sold my ps4 months ago because there was literally nothing good to play until next year. This was one of the worst years in recent memory for gaming. If I had to vote for GOTY though, Destiny is the only choice that makes sense.

TLoU Remastered and it's not even close. GTA V remastered comes in second :lol

if we're not including remasters, then I'll go with Wolfenstein I guess. Haven't played Shadow of Mordor or Evil Within yet though, which are two games I plan on playing at some point.

The last of us on PS4, like everyone said. There aren't many other options, just like everyone else said. Destiny was pretty bad, Infamous was okay, but not really good. 2k15 was a big improvement over 14 though.

I just let it sit there and collect dust. All I played was Resogun, Infamous, and mostly Injustice. Owned it for like 3 months and sold it for $300. I am going to buy it again in March or April for Mortal Kombat X and also The Witcher III. I am hoping there is a special edition PS4 for MKX since Sony is backing the game more so than Microsoft.

Shadow of Mordor is fantastic. I just started playing Evil Within, and I love it. Great at building tension and suspense, much like Last of Us. Hard to play it for too long at a time due to the high stress. At least for me. :oldlol:

Wow man... looking back on it I didn't play a whole bunch of games released this year, and the ones I did were underwhelming.

I guess I'd have to say Destiny, and Smash were the only games released this year that really moved the needle for me. Those are the only games worth mentioning. I liked Legend of Korra too.

Not even close to as good as season 1. Episodes 4 and 5 were great, but the first three episodes were kind of shitty imo. At least it ended on a strong note.

Mordor was far more than that. The nemesis system is pretty innovative and unique, and the gameplay in general is just sublime.

But I agree that 2014 was kind of a weak year.

My two favorite games this year are both from Japan and both 3DS, Youkai Watch 2 (a pokemon type of game with more personality) and Monster Hunter 4G (which is all kinds of awesome). I thought for the big consoles this was one of the weaker years I can remember.

Come on. The combat system was a good copy of Batman Arkham Asylum (a 5 year old game that had much more going for it), the nemesis system was good and it looked good. And everything else about it was bad.

It was a really good B-title and a surprise, but Game of the Year material? Very weak.

Games that I enjoyed:

Transistor
Wasteland 2
Dragon Age Inquisition (so far)
The Binding of Isaac Rebirth (my most played game)
South Park The Stick of Truth
Walking Dead Season 2

All great, maybe 8 or 9/10. No true masterpieces this year though.

I get what you're saying, I'm not usually a fan of shooters either. It's not really like your typical shooter though. The game is more about speed and getting through levels as fast as possible. As you play through the game you get a really good handle on the mechanics and it becomes very satisfying to get those perfect runs on levels.

As far as price I paid $20 for it, I don't know if it's different in the States or not.

sunset overdrive was high on my list. I thought I'd hate the jokes based on the previews and ads but I actually thought they were surprisingly well written. I just played wolfenstein this week (got it for christmas) that was pretty good but I'd still rate dragon age, alien and sunset overdrive over it. This year wasn't great but there were still some fun titles. Tomodachi life was fun if your into that sort of game too, bravely default came out in the U.S too this year (last year for us here) and if i were doing a GOTY for american releases that would win it hands down for me.

I just started telltale's walking dead, so far I'm stumped as to how it got scored so high and I was a fan of old point and click games (monkey island is still one of my favourites of all time and I spent a lot of time on kings quest, police quest and leisure suit larry in particular). It's buggy already and seems to lack the actual puzzles old adventure games had. Feels more like a slow paced graphic novel, I've read that choices you make don't actually change the story either just the conversation options. I've already hit some poorly designed game logic as well where I've had conversations about things that haven't actually been revealed yet in the story because I entered a room without fully talking to everyone in the previous room. Seems amateur. The audio on the xbox one version isn't mixed right either, some lines are delivered loud and bassy to the point that they break up a little, hasn't been normalised. I'll keep going with it because I've read it gets better towards the end but so far it feels decent but mediocre.

Saying this about Mordor? The combat was way more fluid and more satisfying than Batman, Something about battling Uruks and decapitating them compared to just knocking out thugs i guess.
