Anyone seen this? I thought this was excellent. Not reliant on "jump scares". Smart, disturbing horror movie.

Here's the trailer. Just got it's US debut a few days ago.

I've not seen it but my housemate has been raving about it. He's a horror fan and 99% of the time what he watches doesn't scare him. I'll check it out for sure.

It's not "scary" like US horror. This one is better. It's unnerving. Left the theater with sweaty palms and underarm sweat. They made a horror movie the way it's supposed to be imo

The Babadook itself is creepy as shit. I really thought this was a good one. It's going to be a cult classic no doubt.

The whole film is a metaphor, apparently. It felt like the Conjuring meets Insidious.

Insidious relied purely on jump scares. Don't people say the opposite about this?
Insidious had a dramatic shift in tone in the second half of the film. The first half was very slow and eerie whereas it went completely off the rails as soon as the comedic ghostbuster characters appear. Babadook has jump scares, too.

I thought the movie was pretty good but not as scary as the others. Had alot of suspense building up and yeah I heard the same thing about the metaphor and it kinda makes sense.

Saw this the other day after seeing it's rottentomatoes score of 97%. I thought it was a good horror film but nothing groundbreaking. I was tense for a good portion of the movie but I wouldn't say it was scary.

I happened to watch Insidious for the first time the day after watching Babadook and I enjoyed Insidious a bit more.

Insidious is another I enjoyed. My issue with American horror is their reliance on the jump scare a bit too much. However I do feel insidious to be a bit more meaty in terms of a plot than others here in the states.

The Badadook doesn't have too many jump scares. Relies more on unnerving and build with a feeling of dread. This movie gets inside of you. For me, it was more disturbing on a particular level as it plays a bit with your own imagination than anything.

My complaint (one at least) with Insidious is that you see TOO MUCH of the monster at the end. I feel that kills the allure of your mind running away with it's own darkest thoughts.

You don't see a LOT of the monster in Babadook. It's an interesting take on the genre. This will be a cult classic no doubt.
