Watched it when it came out, watched it again last night. Still awesome. Very inspiring. I wish Matthew McConaughey had more of a role in it though. He was great for the two scenes he was there.
This scene is greatly motivating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgO37voXqU8
MM's chest thumb song is apparently something he does in real life to warm up before scenes. DiCaprio saw him do it preparing for the scene and suggested he does it in the movie.
OP is wrong TWOW isnt even in Scorseses' top 5 films.

If you're into excesses then yes. Movie was too long and excessively vulgar.
It was DiCaprio's best performance probably.

His performance is Django Unchained was better.

I saw that movie with my girlfriend at the time and it blew us both away. I thought it was one of Dicaprio's best performances, bloody good movie.

I've seen it 3 times and loved it each time. The vulgarity is REAL. I don't care if other people don't like it. That's how people talk in the real world. I'll probably watch it again when I have another female over that hasn't seen it.

I thought the movie was pretty overrated and lacked plot...guy gets rich, parties hard, losses everything...the end

But he doesn't lose everything. That is one of the perks of being rich I guess.

Was a tad too long. At best a 9/10, Goodfellas is the GOAT.

He made $80 mil last year. I would say he's doing OK for himself and will pay back retributions relatively quickly :confusedshrug:

well he loses his family and goes to prison
based on a true story...which is part of the reason it isn't a very deep story I guess

Even though he was a pretty raw actor at the point, Dicaprio in Basketball Diaries was insanely good.

I'm talking about the actual movie plot where he loses his family and goes to prison...not what he is making in real life today that isn't noted in the movie

One of my personal favorites and I'm not mad at anyone that would think so. It had everything I'd ask out of a great movie. Perhaps a little long, but I didn't mind.
I'd also have to nominate American Psycho (the Bale one), though. It was a masterpiece.
Which reminds me, I have to return some video tapes.

A friend of mine knows someone who works in that area, and he says things are actually pretty similar to what happened in the movie..

Loved it.. As you may know/remember from my avy. It was so controversial once it came out..

The point of the end was that the guy didn't lose much. Sure his goldigger wife left but he went to an easy prison where he played tennis and got out early for good behavior and came back and made mad money while the cop had to continue his average life
Dicaprio was phenomenal in this doe. Was some Deniro in king of Comedy level acting

Lol The Departed. It's one of his worst movies. It's like a parody of a Scorcese movie; especially with Jack mailing it in.

I dont know.. I usually love Scorsese or mafia movies.. But I was almost bored by that one.. Too predictable.. yeah yeah, WoW wasn't that unpredictable either.. But it was kept at high pace and exciting.

Not really
He made upwards of 100 million last financial year and is avoiding his return payment to people he ripped off by keeping money in Australia
He is going around here selling his straight line approach which is quite basic sales techniques but people again are chewing up his crap and making him rich all over
The character Donny is meant to be portray is in the drug business ( medical drugs) at the moment and is still loaded with cash
If you pay attention to the last scene of the movie he asks the audience to sell the pen and they all just say the same crap
I feel there is a hidden message in the movie ... Think about it ? With that last scene he is basically saying I am again selling things to morons who will never get it
A lot of people might be offended by this but if I had the opportunity to exploit the morons around me I would do it just like they did in the movie ... Only difference for me is I would avoid the drugs I prefer healthy eating and healthy living (which is pretty much just as expensive as a drug habit )

I don't think it's inspiring but there is a lot of hidden little jabs at society in the movie.... Most people walk away thinking about sex and drugs and don't realise how easy it is to make money from other peoples stupidity. Another reason to learn from this movie is how easy it is to avoid tax and regulations by finding loop holes in tax systems... Just think about it tax systems are created to benefit the rich, if you open your eyes and actually get to see how big businesses run (which I do ) you will notice that the same kinda shit is happening today as they were doing then.
Again I may be thinking far into it but that's at least what I took away from the movie

If you are too dumb to see whats underneath and only look at the sex, drugs, etc., then maybe you are right.

Martin Scorscee is so overrated.
I've watched
Mean Streets
Raging Bull
After Hours
Cape Fear
Taxi Driver
Goodfellas
Casino
Departed
The Aviator
Shutter Island
The Wolf of Wall Street
Gangs of New York
Apart from the Departed and Goodfellas I have no desire to ever watch any of those movies again. Thats usually the test I use to determine how good a movie actually was.

It's a shambles if you've seen Scorsese's earlier films.
