No, but i've had friends who got arrested for cocaine and ecstasy back in the day.
First things first
1. Is this your first offence?
2. How much did you have on you?
3. How old are you?

So you're upset you didn't get free consultation from a lawyer? If you have moderately stiff penalties in your area and half a brain, you'll pay a lawyer.

I did get a consultation, he wanted me to pay him 1200 bucks just to get me conditional discharge. I don't think I need a lawyer to get that.

Theyll reduce it no matter what. Just use the public defender, go up there and say youre sorry and theyll ACD you quick and easy.

No, and in all honesty, the idea of it sounds ridiculous.
I've never actually heard of someone [outside of the NFL] getting in trouble for weed. Maybe in middle school I was a little worried and the teachers would scare us into thinking twice...But that was it.

Man I can't afford one. And I'm not asking my dad to help me on this one.
The program gets the charge off your record immediately but your record will still have a documented arrest. 6 months after the program the arrest will be expunged from my record.
What could a lawyer do for me?

Imagine how ridiculous I felt when I was put in handcuffs and in a cop car just for having a little bit of weed. :coleman:

Considering you've never had a future to lose I understand your apathy for the situation, but he may want to take it more seriously.
He had a piece on him plus possession. You don't want some misdemeanor you'll have to report on job or education application. That being said dude has a gun, so maybe neither are really in his future and just go ahead and **** it.

My brother has had like 4 and they've all gotten reduced. One of them got him DUI which ****ed him but he didn't lose his job. He's an established and talented auto tech tho so he already had leverage in that regard. Auto mechanics is a lot more relaxed about that stuff tho so so take it for what its worth. Sounds like your prob fine but I'd play it safe and get a lawyer if that's at all possible.

Theres nothing a lawyers gonna do, theres no witnesses involved, no cases to cite for precedent, its a simple two gram weed charge on a first offender. Theyre not gonna give him a misdemeanor because then he'd take it to trial and itd waste everyones time. Theyll offer an ACD and thats that, they get stacks of these cases everyday and it always ends the same way. Municipal court is not looking to spend two weeks trying a 20 year old for two grams of pot.
IF for some weird reason they dont offer that to you, then go get a lawyer. You can always retain counsel at any point. Theres no reason to do it now when you almost surely wont need it.

Man that sucks, in Cali me and my cousin got caught with weed, but the cops just crushed it under their foot and let us go.
But I doubt you gonna get anything for it, if you go to court the judge will just dismiss the case, they don't have time to waste on pointless shit like that.

Anything under an ounce is like a $100 fine in California. :oldlol:
Two of my friends got caught smoking weed at forest Park in Queens. Undercover cops just riding their bikes. My friend said they handcuffed them and took their id's. Talked to them about what they were doing. That they loved smoking weed during college and shit. Gave them a summons and warned them it end different next time if they got caught again.
You'll be fine.

Got the single 'street caution' you're allowed (without it going on your record) in London, though my friend who was with me had already had one, but lied, and when they ran it through he came back blank, which makes me think they must store these things on regional databases (his previous caution being in Hampshire).
But no, never been charged.

get a lawyer you moron. Involve your dad. This is something that can and will effect you for the rest of your life if you don't know what you are doing.
a marijuana charge even a seemingly light one has a lot of consequences, in some cases license suspensions, a banning of financial aid, a banning from any sort of work in certain fields, etc.
You'd be surprised. There are certain fields that are not necessarily government that are exempt from expungement laws and can look at charges that you have had that you thought were sealed.
If you have any professional ambition don't f*ck around with this.

if you go to college you really better be careful. I really can't stress this enough, it is imperative that you ensure that this is not going to screw up your ability to continue your education. Most universities have legal services departments where lawyers will represent you for free.

LOL you street illiterate fakkit, the thread is about a weed charge and when asked what he had on him he said "2 grams and a piece". Which is obvious enough, but then someone said "wait you had a gun on you?" and he responded ":lol noooo"
And then you continue giving advice about how the gun relates to the situation and when I call you a retard youre like "read the thread dude" :lol :facepalm
And then when youre backed into your familiar corner you start spraying your standby "yeah well none of you guys have a future!!! youre not going anywhere!!!"
Youre a middle aged forest troll making 35k a year in government cheese and you get picked on by kids and called a girl on a daily basis. I think you oughtta be worried bout the PRESENT my dude. Nobody here would trade places with you.

All of you saying **** it it's a small fine are all a bunch of dead-beats i.e. drop out-wannabe actor-shoe salesmen-still supported by daddy-loser-nobodies.
I would have never gotten a federal research job with a misdemeanor possession charge on my record. My, and the lawyer-guy's point is that you have to be careful dependent upon your desired future. If you want to sell shoes at Macy's and leach off your parents, then yeah, it's not a big deal, you'll be fine.
You may not want my present or future, but at least I have one. Basketball forum troll is not a career.

What i shoulda done was this thing in california called deferred entry of judgment. Charges are dismissed after completing drug classes ordered by the court and keeping your nose clean for 2 years. It woulda cost me more to get a lawyer and pay for the drug classes and probation. Get a lawyer tho. Spoke to a lawyer last night. He wants 1200 bucks just to get me on a program that cleans my record in 6 months if I stay out of trouble,
Went to court today. PD offered me that same deal. Or another deal that makes me prove I am a student in university and the charge will get dropped to a low disorderly conduct. But I gotta pay 700

I'm a machinist and you don't think jobs are asking me about my criminal history? The times they don't they're checking to see if I'm a liar AND a pothead. I didn't say anything when it wasn't mentioned one time. They took back the job offer after running my history. Now I make sure to tell any potential employer about what's coming on a background check.
California has that DEJ program. Look it up. I found out about it when I researched getting my offense expunged. Couple lawyers I talked to was telling me that's what the pd shoulda got me into back then.
Dude. 10 years ago I had no idea I'd have the opportunity to work at places doing contract stuff for JPL. That was the job they offered and then took back the offer. Betting the OP doesnt have any good idea where he'll be in another 10 years either. Why close doors to save a thousand bucks? It seems like a lot of money right now...but it really isnt.
There are plenty of professions that won't care about a possession offense, but a lot still do. It's like a tattoo I regret these days and have to live with it. Even expunged it's still gonna be there.
Why do you think I gotta be BS'ing because I have different point of view?

Trust me, dukedelonte is NOT a lawyer. And his advice was predictably WRONG, confirmed by OPs convos with a private attorney and the public defender. I guess youre failng yet again to competently read through the posts in the thread.
Smh @ u :facepalm
And theres like half a dozen people in this thread that have been through OPs situation. Youre literally the least qualified of anyone in here to talk about this, or for that matter anything that doesnt have to do with the growth cycle of lichen.
whatever you think bud.
Here's the ultimate deal with minor MJ cases, the convictions can and will haunt you if you aren't careful with whats going on. As i've said before that fact that a conviction was expunged, or diverted can be meaningless depending on what field you are going into.
Expungement/sealing of record doesn't mean that the arrest and conviction just disappear, it just means that access into those records becomes a bit more restricted.
The big problem with MJ or any drug conviction is that it can f*ck up a student's financial aid, and potentially prohibit someone from working in certain fields like the medical industry or higher tier government positions. (even w/ a diversion/deferred judgement whatever you want to call it) A lot of these programs require an initial plea to the offense, and the proceedings are held in abeyance until the offender completes the program and the charge gets dropped. The fact that a plea gets entered is the damning fact. Sometimes it is better to plea to an amended charge than go through a drug program. It just depends on the individual.
the bottom line is that it is stupid as f*ck for somebody in college to just blindly resolve a drug matter. If he talked with the PD thats good, at least that's better than nothing. If you are set in your career and its not gonna hurt, you can justify just going in and getting it done.

What a hero! Also pretty funny how you reel off an unjustifiable and impossible to prove or disprove statement as if it were gospel, and a pretty childish statement at that.
Hey dipshit, the point isn't some internet drug dick swinging contest, it's that I'm not coming from the position of a prude.
