Feds Find Shocking, Systemic Brutality, Incompetence In Cleveland Police Department

WASHINGTON -- In recent years, Cleveland police officers have punched a 13-year-old boy who was in handcuffs for shoplifting and shot at an unarmed kidnapping victim who was wearing only his underwear, according to disturbing allegations released Thursday by the Justice Department. The agency's investigation found that officers in Cleveland routinely use unjustifiable force against not only criminals and suspects, but also innocent victims of crimes.

Is it possible to not be pro-cop in this scenario but also not be anti-Darren Wilson?

It doesn't matter. The evidence is now showing these cops are as bad as the criminals they are apprehending.

"The Justice Department also claimed to have identified "several cases" where "officers shot or shot at people who did not pose an immediate threat of death or serious bodily injury to officers or others." For example, in 2013, the report noted that police shot at a kidnapping victim after he fled from his assailants wearing only his boxers. The sergeant said he believed the victim had a weapon because he raised his hand."

That one takes the cake.

The problem is that most cops are legit retarded. Some places literally have an IQ cap where you can be too smart to be a cop (I wish I was kidding). When you have a lot of idiots, you're gonna have a lot of mistakes, really dumb ones on top of that

I think the fact that so many cops are ex-millitary is a problem too. Over the past decade, a whole bunch of veterans returning from iraq and afghanistan have become police officers. A lot of these cops still have the same combat oriented mindset from their days fighting the war, and a lot of them have psychological baggage from the heinous shit they witnessed over there. Ultimately, you end up with cops reacting to problems as if they were part of a millitary force under attack by enemy soldiers rather than a police force tasked with public safety.

Spot on.

"The report also said that the culture of the Cleveland police force promotes an "us-against-them" mentality. It cited the example of a sign in one district station that identifies the station as a "forward operating base" -- which DOJ noted is a military term for a small outpost in a war zone. "

Basically these cops see civilians as the "enemy." I don't care if you're white or black. We're in a lot of trouble if that is the case.

Any one who takes the same side every single time regardless of the situation and the facts is an idiot.

Michael Brown was a thug and a petty criminal who tried to assault a police and won the Darwin award. That doesn't mean there aren't some big problems with the police in America and that police brutality doesn't happen.

The Cleveland Police department was already under investigation when the guy who killed the 12 year old with the toy gun, was ruled "unfit to do police work" by a smaller police outfit near Cleveland. The Department of Justice is really considering a complete overhaul.

What I find interesting with the pro cop conservatives is that they drain a city's resources big time. In NY its over 200 million dollars in claims for Police transgressions. Imagine paying that out for a lack of training!!!

It's true at least in California. I applied to the sheriff's department for shits and giggles. I applied with a group of 1100 people, and made the first cut of 80 people. I was discussing this with a few of the interviewees and one of the girls who had family in the department confirmed this. Apparently overly intelligent and educated individuals are statistically more likely to leave the department, with boredom or better job offers the main reasons.

I ended up taking the physical and my first interview. They called me back for a 2nd interview 3 weeks later but I never showed up. The reality of being a cop sunk in, plus I was in Colorado snowboarding.

do you know the ratio of cops that do good and do their job well vs's occurrences like these? so how can you possibly asses if cops are as terrible as criminals? because you lack logic and rational homie. go get some before you share your opinions.

Rambo's simple mind is for the most part only capable of thinking in terms of hyperbolic absolutes and extremes. Supporting the grand jury's decision in Ferguson must mean you're pro-every-cop-everywhere and you deny any existence of real police brutality, etc.

He can't help it.

Some people in here can see no wrong in what the police are doing, so I'm just trying to show the first option is excessive force and not the last option. This should put a new perspective in the slew of killings including Trayvon.
