I cannot believe 3 people at my job called out on a friday. But they did it on a pay Friday which shocked the hell out of me. It's almost like they feel they are above being written up or fired. Has anyone ever called out on a friday on any job?

That's some hard core sh*t

I'm sure I have. As long as you dont abuse your sick day privilege, it should be no problem (but depends on the job I guess.)

Taking more sick days than is acceptable given the culture of your company/industry. Many companies have hard guidelines regarding this. Also whether your sick days are paid or not.

oh the horror

If it's the same people every month then that would be abusing sick days.

For me to call out on a pay Friday I would have to be in the emergency room. Lol

Really....I dont see anything wrong calling out on a Friday. I know at some places if you call out sick on Friday and if Monday is a Holiday then you need a doctor note to get pay for Friday.

Same here, but I'm self employed. Most clients don't care about your personal situation, they just want the job done.

Direct Deposit FTW.

My place has a pretty damn liberal work policy. If you get your 40 hours, you're good. We're open 5 to 5, and 5 to noon on Saturdays. Any time over 40 is paid at time and a half. If you wanna do 4 ten hour days and work four day weeks, go for it. Vacation time and whatever allotted sick days you have are applied to the work hours for the week, and we even allow half days of 4 hours to be taken.

But we do have people who chronically take advantage. One way we tried to stem the tied is in our bonus. We do a profit sharing of 5, 10, or 15% of your regular hours worked for a bonus. They used to just assume everyone put in a full 52 40 hour weeks, which comes out to 2080 hours. But now they track that and you only get your bonus based on the actual regular time hours you worked.

Still hasn't stopped it. And the problem is we're in manufacturing, and the trick is to have the machines running as consistently as possible. So even if you are gonna work 4 tens, I'd love to be able to find someone to work that Friday. But it's hard enough to find a single shift of qualified machinists, let alone spares.

I'd love to run the place differently, but I'm at a point where a few people need to retire or die.

I think every decent sized company I have worked for in the past 10+ years has offered direct deposit as an option.

What do you work in, OP?

Caling in sick before the weekend, after the weekend and before and after holidays is a dick move.

I guess they both have their perks. Sometimes I feel it would be great to go home for the weekend and not worry about work. At the same time, there is nothing better than working for yourself and not having to answer to anybody. I like to be hands on, so its a lot of hard work. Not many days off as I work 7 days.

But man, sounds much less stressful to be able to get off on weekends and not worry about the job for a couple days.
