View Full Version : Why do Americans love troops so much?

Yet hate policemen? It really makes me laugh. Troops perform atrocities 10 times worse than policemen yet are treated as heroes. But I guess since their victims aren't American it really doesn't matter to the American public.

cause troops are mistreating people abroad, while cops are mistreating americans at home

if americans were being occupied by the us military forces I'm sure there wouldn't be this love

This is odd. Typically the same Americans who love the troops usually also support policemen. Usually, if someone hates the cops, then they also tend to recognize military atrocities while maybe having a casual "yeah, I guess I support the troops" attitude.

Well obviously you hate America. And you hate the American way of life which is the best way of life hands down. And you are wrong. People who hate police are criminals or have relatives in jails. Stop hating America and worry about improving your own countries legal system.

Classic American mindset....

"They don't support all of this excess spending we do to police the world?"

"People are dying for that flag! These guys deserve a beating!"

Because we never have to worry about external threats to the country. Think about how many countries would like to burn us to the ground. Now, how many are capable of actually doing this? None. That's why troops are important. Our enforcers

You don't honestly believe that?

:biggums:

There is no country in the world that would be stupid enough to invade America and one could argue our huge military presence around the globe dangers our national security. Occupying foreign lands and forcing freedom will only bring resentment and create enemies that pose a bigger danger than fighting these pre-emptive wars and stationing our troops around the world.

Americans would be better off with less military spending and stop revering these soldiers as champions of freedom. The only ones that benefit from our over-bloated military spending are groups like military complexes, multi-national corporations etc.

And I wonder why on earth they'd want to do that?

Surely it has nothing to do with the fact that an American military base would be one of the first things to pop up on new land as it were discovered...

Unipolar system. Whether you like it or not, we are THE dominant superpower in the world which is probably a big reason why the world is relatively stable. One powerful country that can dominate anyone else is a huge deterrent to World War.

Not to mention, we are easily the most benevolent superpower in human history

I'm honestly no too fond of either group. Bunch of entitled arrogant jackasses generally.

I do have a lot of respect for war heroes though. That's some crazy shit they carry out & risk their lives doing it. I want no part of that. I can't fault the foot soldiers for being deployed, that decision wasn't up to them. Sure they signed up but the military life ain't exactly easy.

Biggest economic power? Check
Most culturally dominant? Check
By far the strongest military? Check

You probably need to read up on what a superpower actually is.

I get that you're one of those hippies that just went to college and you're all anti-America and anti-Corporation and that's cool. But don't pretend like you really know what you're talking about

Hes right doe. America REALLY isn't as "Number 1" as they think they are. Only thing they might be best at is making movies and tv shows.

I'm sure everyone has seen this, but it is still true. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPHSXUS0_1c

Very average show. Sorkin really needs someone like Fincher or Miller to reign him in otherwise he gets really preachy. With a strong director tho, his dialog is much better albeit still unrealistic. Even The West Wing was mad overrated and just go props for being an ideal liberal presidency. Complete joke that it won all those Emmys over far superior shows like The Sopranos

Aite, I got mad off topic. As for the clip, I don't disagree with all of it but I make a distinction between best and greatest. IMO there is no 'best' country because best is very subjective. "Greatness" on the other hand is different. I think the United States is definitely the greatest country in the world the same way the Brits were over a hundred years ago, the Romans were two thousand years ago, the Chinese were for various parts of there history, and the Persians and Egyptians were a long ass time ago.

US is economically, culturally, and militarily the strongest country in the world. Those are what I consider the three measures of greatness and it tops all three categories

I have never seen the show, I just know the about that video.

Secondly, about the bolded.....what? Economically, it is very difficult to say because of the debt in the world these days as well as the general fact that most civilians have no idea exactly how much money their country has. Culturally is an absolute joke.

Not sure how you rate culture, US is basically every culture in the world combined.

I do feel like the US is a greater country than China overall...not sure what this has to do with troops and cops though.

Troops have not always been universally liked though (think: coming back from Vietnam). But nothing wrong with supporting our military, and alot of us are connected to them through family. San Antonio (my city) is a big military city for sure

Americans place more value over military necessity than following International Laws of Warfare. Compared to countries like Canada or Germany, we don't give a shit about what our troops do half the time. That's why every time there's a massacre by a soldier in the Middle East, they're automatically acquitted by the American public. "Oh, it was a difficult situation, he was always a good boy when he was little and would never do something like this. He only got up in the middle of the night, went to a nearby village, slaughtered EVERYONE(women and children included), then went back to his camp to go back to sleep. He was under heavy drug and alcohol influence from the stress of the war, so it's okay". Mother****er didn't even get the death penalty :facepalm

Yeah, pretty much. Go overseas and see how dominant American culture is. All the latest Hollywood movies are the thing. People going crazy about iPods and iPad. Hell, McDonalds is HUGE overseas. If the world was a Civ game, the US would have a cultural victory

America is the greatest country ever. Too bad the uber liberals and the 3rd worlders hate this fact. Not my concern or any real Americans concern. The fact that we as Americans are ALWAYS asked to help other countries whether in conflict, due to an outbreak of Ebola, or due to a Tsunami displacing families, we are THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME! Thank you and suck it slow for all you deniers.
God Bless America and God Bless our American heroes who put their lives on the line for the benefit of this great country!
