who had the more impressive season?
- pippen took his team to the playoffs without another top 15 player
- without jordan, pippen's leadership and intangibles resulted in just 2 fewer games won
- lead his team on offense and defense
- took his team farther into the postseason than jordan did without pippen
- lebron carried his team at 21 y/o
- was a better scorer than pippen
- played in a weaker conference
- led the league in player efficiency rating
pippen i believe was more underrated and not credited the success jordan acclaimed (despite being a superior all-around player AND the leader of the bulls as mentioned by phil jackson). lebron's scoring is enticing - and in the END, would potentially be the tiebreaker for me.

I like Pippen, But Lebron was the better player. Lebron should have been the MVP in 2006.

posters ALWAYS claim that kobe was amazing in 2006 (he was a GREAT scorer, no doubt) - but what lebron did was nothing short of spectacular given 2 MAJOR key points:
1. lebron was only 21 y/o and took his team farther into the postseason than kobe did - this while having a WORSE coach and arguably a WORSE supporting cast. of course - someone is going to mention that the lakers had to play the suns, and that they were better than anyone out east - except that is FACTUALLY inaccurate. the suns played no defense, but more importantly, their second best player and an ALLSTAR at the time, amare, missed the ENTIRE postseason. given that the east plays better defense and that lebron had to work with LESS - i would say it evens out, and that lebron taking his team to second round made his season MORE impressive
2. better ALL around stats, including PER and winshares per 48 minutes. not only does lebron win the EYE TEST (as stated above) - but he has better numbers as well.

what is the reason you picked lebro's 06 season?

Cavs were also 20-10 vs. West teams.

lebron was a semifinalist like pippen - and both played without another top 15-20 player.

LeBron's scoring gives him the edge. Sure, Pippen "leading" the Bulls and winning 55 games without Jordan (just 2 less than the season prior) is impressive, but his team had just come off a 3-peat while adding key acquisitions in Kukoc and Kerr.

lebron wasnt even a good defender back then. most hyped player in the league at the time yet still couldn't make any defense team

so its no big deal that he lost Jordan because they added kukoc and kerr?

What I'm saying is that TEAM was seasoned and just came off a 3-peat. For them to drop off considerably, they would have to go through a complete roster overhaul.
Without Jordan - knocked out by the Knicks in round 2
With Jordan - championship

1994 Bulls had the swagger of 3-time defending champs and a chip on their shoulder to prove themselves - they played their ass off in the regular season and were still barely beating teams with a thin SRS.
The next season when they no longer had the glow of being 3-time defending champs, reality set in and the bottom fell out - they were 34-32 when Jordan came back and finished 47-35.

Bulls with Jordan.... 3-time defending champs
Bulls without Jordan.... 2nd round exit team
Pretty massive chasm of a difference.
Basketball is more complicated than you think Mehyta..

peak pippen had better numbers in the playoffs than in the regular season - FWIW
of course - this is what made pippen SO great. he sacrificed his numbers for the betterment of the team. points , rebounds, assists , steals, GOAT defense. you name it, pippen did it - which is why phil jackson from day 1 annointed pippen as team captain and leader of the bulls' offense (and defense).
doing so, the bulls won 6 championships.
people think it is "simplistic" to point out that jordan was a horrific 1-9 in the playoffs (i say they miss the playoffs because, really, 1-9 is basically not even making the postseason) - but they are facts. facts are unwavering and CANNOT be disputed.
to a certain degree, this puts an asterisk on jordan's career and all time ranking.

he should be recognized for who he is, the bulls' captain.
take the '92 finals for example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irXI5xtGXag
bulls are struggling, so phil decides to put jordan on the bench while pippen leads the bulls on a furious comeback, putting the game away and securing another title
you cant teach THAT type of leadership and POISE - this is why pippen had more success without jordan than vice versa.
and the defense? man - that's just the cherry on the top
