List of National Basketball Association top individual game scores
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search This is a list of the top 25 individual game scores attained by a player in the National Basketball Association. An unofficial statistic, these performances are analyzed and quantified by how impressive the all-around game is by the Hollinger Game Score formula devised by APBRmetrics statistician John Hollinger. It is a very similar measure to Player Efficiency Rating in that it focuses upon how effective and efficient a player's performance is, except that it does not factor in time played in the game and other tangibles, such as the strength of the opponent, the strength of the opponent's defense, the strength of the primary defender, and the location at which the game is played. For more on the Game Score formula, see the main article on John Hollinger.

In order to obtain the score of a player's performance, the entire box score is needed, so it is impossible to calculate a score for a game before the 1978 season, and at the moment, before the 1985-86 NBA season. So, this list currently entails all games played in the past 28 NBA seasons.

Here are the top 25 Hollinger Game Scores since the 1985-86 season (past 28 seasons). Michael Jordan leads the list, with 7 of the 25 top performances.

That's not even LeBron's best game. Game 6 vs. Celtics, and his game against the Pistons were better but that's going off more than just stats.

****in MJ with 69/18 though

I thought that Lebron's best statistical game was the 52/9/11 (or something like that) against the Knicks.

stupid to compare regular season games to playoff games. Where is the list of to 25 playoff games based on PER?

Man this isn't even PER... Don't know why the fukk we're entertaining this thread, or "stat" (unofficial).

Anyway, in the playoffs:

LeBron has 2 in the top 15 and Kobe none..

LeBron has 10 in the top 100, Kobe 2.

And of course a higher career average for both regular season and playoffs.

OP do you use PER?

Malone's game is insane and might be the best one there (numbers wise at least).

61 pts on 21-26 shooting with 18 boards in only 33 minutes. Damn.

Prime example of how stats are not the end of all things. You add context to it, and it's clearly obvious that outscoring a Finals team that was a 60-win regular season team is far more impressive than scoring 81 on one of the worst defensive teams in 4 quarters or dropping 65 in an OT game.

But, he did drop 54 points in only the 2nd half against the Raptors. 54 points in less than 24 minutes

Yeah but lets be realistic.

The top 25 PER playoff games are > the top 25 regular season games.

Scoring 60 against a playoff team is more impressive than dropping 80 in teh regular season. Stats will say otherwise, but that list isn't definitive of Jordan, LeBron, or Kobe's best games. I'd say none of those 3 players have their best game on that list.

You like this "stat" ?

I think we can agree it really shows how much more dominant LeBron is over Kobe in the playoffs

Even OP has changed his opinion... all from "funny how Kobe appears 3 times and LeBron once".
