Sony Hack reveals discussion with Marvel for it's Spider-Man Franchise

http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2014/12/09/sony-marvel-discussed-spider-man-movie-crossover/

Sony Pictures suffered a large hack Nov. 24, which has resulted in the release of a slew of private emails, sensitive information about 47,000 employees and financial data to be released.

According to emails released, the studio and Marvel owner Disney have discussed teaming up to have the superhero show up in Captain America.

The emails were sent to and from Sony motion picture chief Amy Pascal, and included correspondences with Sony CEO Kaz Hirai and Disney CEO Bob Iger.

An Oct. 30 email from Sony Pictures president Doug Belgrad to Pascal discussed the possibility of Marvel producing a new Spider-Man trilogy that would see Sony retain “creative control, marketing and distribution.”

Sadly, these talks apparently broke down, and a "Spidey Summit" is planned for January which will see Sony decide where to take the franchise next. Among other things, the studio has desperately tried to bring back Sam Raimi (who directed the original Spider-Man movies) to return as a director or a producer.

Also projects in development are an animated Spider-Man comedy that would be produced by Chris Miller and Phil Lord, the team behind “22 Jump Street”, as well as previously disclosed Spider-Man spin-offs focused on villain team Sinister Six, super-foe Venom, and women from the webslinger’s life including a rumored solo movie for Aunt May.

Sony moved its next Amazing Spider-Man film from 2016 to 2018 after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 failed to meet box office expectations.

Sony planning a 22 Jump Street Crossover with Men In Black (No Will Smith / Tommy Lee Jones)

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/12/10/sony-planning-a-jump-street-men-in-black-crossover

The leaked emails between execs and talent, including Jump Street stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, reveal that all involved are eager to make it happen. The crossover would also essentially "reinvigorate" the MiB franchise after the lukewarm response to Men in Black 3.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Jump Street makers Chris Miller and Phil Lord are producing the crossover movie and may also direct it. Sony wants the film fast-tracked for a 2016 or 2017 release.

The movie will likely NOT involve Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones.

In an e-mail to (studio boss Amy Pascal), Mr. Hill says 'jump street merging with mib i think that’s clean and rad and powerful.'

In another e-mail, Hannah Minghella, a president of production for Sony’s Columbia Pictures label, says of the joint sequel, 'We DON'T have a script yet so we’ll be greenlighting the movie off the concept and the talent involved.

Spiderman can't stand on his own anymore. Marvel has stepped the game up and created an entire universe full or superheroes. The original movie will always have its place in history though.

Sony's a Hack? Get it? They deserves to get hacked.

Sony's Columbia Puctures are now a joke of a movie company. All they produce are Adam Sandler movies which the hackers also leaked.

I won't be paying to see any of their next Spidey films (a comedy really?) and it's dumb spinoffs, they messed up their only true franchise outside of their horrid Adam Sandler movies.

sony is a joke of a company and an easy one for hackers to hate. they were great in the 80's/early 90's but have seriously fallen off. i really hated all their proprietary bullshit too.

[QUOTE]By now, it's no secret that Sony sucks at cybersecurity. The company's movie business, Sony Pictures Entertainment, was recently hit with what may end up being the biggest corporate hack in history. It's not the first time Sony has laid claim to that title. And if history is any guide, it likely won't be the last.

You can trace Sony's unfortunate series of hacker run-ins all the way back to 2005. And when you do, you can see that it's not just that the company is bad at defending itself

i don't believe that story. I don't think NKorea has the people able to hack on that level. I think the chinese did it in N.Korea proxy. NKorea is a perfect cover for their stealing information, which they've been getting more exposed on, and NKorea is the perfect scapegoat.

He absolutely can but it needs to be a good script with a more personal story. That's why Spider-Man 2 was so good (IMO, just behind the Dark Knight as best superhero movie). That's why Spider-Man 3 and Amazing Spider-Man 2 were such overkill focusing on so many different villains.

Emails leaked:

[quote]"YOU BETTER SHUT ANGIE DOWN BEFORE SHE MAKES IT VERY HARD FOR DAVID TO DO JOBS," Rudin wrote in an email in Feb. 2014. Pascal, apparently sensing a threat, didn't respond lightly, which caused the fight to completely explode.

"Do not f--king threaten me," she wrote. "I have been asking you to engage with me on this for weeks."

After that, Rudin loses it completely, attacking both Pascal and Jolie.

"What the hell are you talking about? Who's threatening you? Let me remind you I brought this material to you and I can off her from it in a phone call. Don't for one second even think about trying this s--t with me. There is no movie of Cleopatra to be made (and how that is a bad thing given the insanity and rampaging spoiled ego of this woman and the cost of the movie is beyond me) and if you won't tell her that you do not like the script

Head of Sony caught with racist jokes about Obama, and other Actors

http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2014/12/11/sony-hack-execs-make-racist-jokes-about-barack-obama-listers-slam-those/

More incriminating personal information was leaked Wednesday following the unprecedented Sony Pictures hack, this time in the form of emails between top producers and executives belittling a number of major stars and projects, and even making racist jokes about President Barack Obama.

In one email exchange, Sony co-chairperson Amy Pascal -- a prominent Democratic party donor and Obama supporter -- asked movie producer Scott Rudin ahead of a fundraiser what she should ask the President "at this stupid Jeffrey (Katzenberg) breakfast," to which Rudin quipped "would he like to finance some movies."

"I doubt it. Should I ask him if he liked DJANGO?" Pascal responded, Rudin then retorted: "12 Years."

It goes on.

"Or the butler, or think like a man?" Pascal continued, to which Rudin wrote: "Ride-along. I bet he likes Kevin Hart."

Hart was also called a "whore" by another executive in another leaked exchange for requesting more money.

In other exchanges between Pascal and Rudin, Angelina Jolie was called a “spoiled brat,” and unflattering comments were made about everyone from Tom Cruise, David Fincher, Aaron Sorkin, and Adam Sandler.

Because of the leaks, Sony executives are no longer corresponding via email but through text messages in an effort to avoid further information exposure, a well placed studio source told FOX411. It is being internally suggested that the studio may now have to pay its top-tier talent three times what they would have otherwise paid as “damage control” to lure them back.

Asking a Black President if he likes movies centering around Black characters is probably stereotyping and has nothing to do with racism.

Racism is the actual hatred and oppression of another race due to their race.

Hack reveals that Andrew Garfield may have been Fired from his Spider-Man Contract by Sony

http://mashable.com/2014/12/12/spider-man-may-appear-in-captain-america-3-but-not-played-by-andrew-garfield/

http://cdn.screenrant.com/wp-content/uploads/amazing-spider-man-2-andrew-garfield-570x320.jpg

Based on emails seen by Mashable, Andrew Garfield's comments about studio interference being responsible for the tepid response to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 have upset the wrong people, especially as he failed to appear at a Sony corporate dinner in July which would have seen him meet Sony CEO Kaz Hirai and a number of other executives.

However, "His absence (with less than an hour of notice) was seen as an affront and slight by the company's Tokyo bosses," according to the site. As a result, he's been effectively fired as talk of a new Spider-Man began in October.

Emails reveal Sony wants to Reboot Spider-Man AGAIN with Ryan Gosling in mind

http://cdn.hellogiggles.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/25/ryan-gosling-sexy-pics.jpg

Jeff Robinov, former ex-Warner Bros VP now head of Sony's Studio 8 is trying to prevent a deal that would see Sony collaborate with Marvel on the future of the Spider-Man franchise.

In an email dated November 13 sent to Amy Pascal, Sony Pictures co-chairman, Robinov outlined a plan to reboot the entire Spider-Man franchise again with new leads in the vein similar to the long running James Bond films. Robinov also suggests possibly bringing on Stan Lee to invent a new character for Sony to exploit. Furthermore, the conversation between Robinov and Pascal implies that unless Sony decides to partner with Marvel, they're running out of options.

The latest "Sony Hack" also pertains to actor Ryan Gosling. Pascal is keen on offering the actor a number of parts and asks a colleague to ask the actor about starring in either the Steve Jobs biopic, or their planned Spider-Man spin-off "Sinister Six" possibly as their new Spider-Man.

Who Sony was Looking to Cast for their Spider-man spin off Sinister Six (http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/JoshWildingNewsAndReviews/news/?a=112696)

http://cdn.screenrant.com/wp-content/uploads/Roberto-Orci-Talks-Sinister-Six-and-Venom-Movies.jpg

Before The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ended up being a critical and commercial failure and fans recoiled at the idea of a movie starring The Sinister Six, the spinoff was moving along at a steady pace.

Thanks to musician Val Broeksmit we know who Sony were considering for some of the key roles in The Sinister Six.

Drew Goddard apparently in one email really pushed for Emily Blunt as Scorpia although Amy Pascal pointed out she looked too "anorexic" and suggested Ruth Wilson or Rose Byrne.

Sean Penn directly mentioned as a Doctor Octopus candidate, or even Woody Harrelson too.

Colin Firth is also suggested as The Vulture.

As for Sandman, he'll apparently be the movie's comic relief, and so a list of names are reeled off, from Tom Hardy (Goddard's choice) to the more comedic Jonah Hill, Michael Pena, and a number of others.

Things take a slightly offensive turn when Amy Pascal "jokingly" suggests Jared Leto for Felicia Hardy.

Idris Elba meanwhile is apparently "only good when he speaks British", and Pascal even suggests turning to Jackie Chan or "original bad guy Walter White" aka Bryan Cranston who she asks, "is he ever good in anything else". Really. This is basically just a brain fart of ideas, but there were definitely some actors they were more keen on than others.

Channing Tatum apparently wanted to play Venom, but now that he's Gambit, that seems less likely.

Some final bits for you; Doctor Octopus is described as the team's leader and needs to have quirks so as not to be boring as The Sinister Six's straight man.

Avi Arad also suggested a Female Venom with Ann Weiying for the female team spinoff, and Hannah Minghella brings up a suggestion Emma Stone that she returns as Carnage (Ultimate version) as a "thought to consider for the future" because it "could be really cool/sexy/intense to see."

Jonah Hill as Sandman?
Channing Tatum as Venom?
Emma Stone as Carnage?
