View Full Version : Stat comparison of top 4 point guards

Aidz
12-10-2014, 10:14 AM
Rajon Rondo - 10.8 apg / 8.3 ppg (38.6% fg) / 3.4 TOV
Ty Lawson - 10.4 apg / 16.2 ppg (40.9% fg) / 3.0 TOV
John Wall - 10.4 apg / 18.0 ppg (43.2% fg) / 4.1 TOV
Chris Paul - 9.9 apg / 18.1 ppg (51.7% fg) / 1.6 TOV

These are the top 4 assist men in the league. After that it's a big drop off to 7.7, shared by Curry and LeBron. (Not counting Ricky Rubio who has 10.0 apg but he's only played 5 games).

EDIT: Updated Chris Paul fg% and included turnover rate.

In terms of pure point guard numbers, I'd measure it as:
1. Paul (by a fair margin)
2. John Wall
3. Ty Lawson
----
4. Rajon Rondo (less than 10ppg and fg% below 40 doesn't put him in the same league as these guys)

Read the ****ing OP, you idiot. This is the top 4 in assists, min 10 games by the looks of it.

Rondo is not one of the best point guards. He is a solid point guard but that's it. When you are comfortably on a lower tier to a list of other point guards, you are not one of the best.

I haven't checked the stats, but I can almost guarantee OP got Chris Paul's FG% incorrect. I'm guessing it is closer to 50% than it is 40%.

If that is the case, I'd take Paul over all of them.

:oldlol: These stats can eat a dick. Paul averages an absurd 10apg to 1.5topg...Wall averages 10 to 4 turnovers and scores more or less the same. (on significantly worse efficiency) The way Chris Paul is underrated by EVERYONE...not just this idiotic forum...but everyone is ****ing ridiculous. I mean jesus christ...you average 18ppg on great efficiency, 10 assist to 1.5 turnovers, play great defense and still people want to make you a scapegoat. He's the best pg in this league BY A HUGE MARGIN. I guess he has to win a championship for you idiots to realize that. Since you don't realize it's a team game and he can't just do it alone (what a horrible player...can't win a champion on his own..*shakes head*), I guess the Clips have to win a championship before you morons realize what a once in a life time, brilliant player he is...

Chris Paul has fairly easily become the most underrated player in the league since he hurt his knee 6 years ago.

Paul is shooting 51.7% and is the best PG in the game. Curry is #2 and Westbrook #3 then Lillard #4. After that there's a bunch of names arguable.

12-10-2014, 11:38 AM
You got Paul's FG% and 3P% mixed up, he's shooting 40.8 from 3 and 52% overall.

It's CP, then Curry, then everybody else.
Westbrook is a SG

Rondo is a career 48% fg%

His season so far reflects more of him missing training camp and being less than a full season since returning from his knee injury than his normal ability.

Why not include turnovers as well, as if you are going to focus on assists, giveaways should count.

What is the point of cherry-picking three stats that don't even come close to showing the full picture? This point guard comparison is... pointless (HAH, GET IT?!).

Paul, Curry and Westbrook are the top 3 in whatever order you like. I don't see how that can really be disputed.

You must not be too bright. He said that those are the top 4 PGs in assists.

Yeah but who cares?

So the point of the OP was to say that John Wall has more APG than Chris Paul? Well, obviously. Or that FG% on its own says something about Rondo's or any of these players' efficiency? How about FTA and FT%? And 3pt attempts and %?

So sure, based on these completely arbitrary criteria, John Wall looks better than Chris Paul.

THIS people here are ****ing retarded as hell. How is it cp3 is easily the best pg in the league. Westbrook and curry are up there, but not better. he does everything you need from a pg. and averaging 1.5 turnovers while dishing out 10 assists is ****ing legendary. also averaging 2 steals per game. dude is a ****ing beast. you get idiots talking about playoffs like hes supposed to beat every team in the west by himself. dude is clutch as hell and he always brings it in the playoffs. But if he were to go to a super team like bron, everyone would still hate on him

Exactly. Not winning a ring would severely hurt Paul's legacy. All ppl say is "but he ain't got no rings doe," and yet can't understand why in the world Lebron would leave shitty ass Cleveland for a legitimate chance at winning rings.

I'll put it this way. They are as natural PGs as Allen Iverson was.

CP3 is the best pg and has been for years. I don't care if he never wins a ring, he's already proven himself to be one of the best PGs in history.

He's just never really had the right pieces around him...and sometimes that's how the cookie crumbles. This ain't tennis or golf.

Not all turnovers are the same. For example Rondo's TOs come from interior passes. I feel a few TOs are worth that risk considering they aren't turned into points off TO like perimeter TOs.

I see what you're saying...

I'll contend that just because one doesn't fit the model of your prototypical 'pure' pass first point guard doesn't mean they aren't one or don't play that given position.

He's one of the biggest "stat-padder". I hate using that term, but Rondo is one. Dude blows easy baskets to get assists and routinely gives up playing defense for the rebound. Dude has talent and is really good, but he's basically a modern day Wilt (minus the winning).

That really doesn't change anything when I'm comparing point guards. I don't care how many rebounds my point guards get I'll leave that to the big men. There is still a healthy list of guys I'm taking before Rondo.
