Dirk in '11?

I would probably say so. But it's not an easy choice (Wade has a very strong argument for best player in the Finals).

Nah it's quite easy, Wade was great but Dirk was better without an argument.

Dirk put up 26/10/2/.5/.5 on .537 TS%, with a GameScore of 16.6.

Wade put up 27/7/5/1.5/1.5 on .614 TS%, with a GameScore of 22.7.

Wade was 16/29 in 4th quarters. Dirk was 18/35.

Like I said, I'd probably go with Dirk. But it's not without argument. Wade put a all time choking LeBron and an unperforming Bosh on his back.

Why would you probably go with Dirk? Because LeBron choked?

Heat should have easily won that series

I personally thought Wade was a bit better than Dirk in the finals (mainly because of the flu game...people forget that Dirk did play one game truly sick)...however, it's a tough comparison because the Mavs pretty much solely focused on Lebron.

It would have been embarrassing if Wade didn't play great given the lack of attention he faced. But regardless, you have to credit him for playing well.

This thread will amount to a discussion on offense-related statistics rather than who the better player was. How do we qualify the defensive impact of players like Duncan, KG, and Shaq outside of raw stats? Their impact isn't always in the boxscore or even advanced stats. As for the thread, I'd bet Jordan is eligible in some of his runs

Surprised nobody mentioned 2000 Shaq.

2012 and 2013 LeBron.

All of Duncan's series are really arguable... I do remember KG having a good series against TD in 1999. Obviously you could argue Kobe playing better in 2003 as well, and Amare went crazy against TD in 2005 dropping something like 37/10 in that series.

Kobe was the best in 09 and 10.

Hakeem in 94, 95?

Only Duncan one was 03, tbh, and he was certainly the best player in every series. Duncan was better than KG in the Minny series, but Duncan wasn't better than Robinson in the Portland series.

Kobe doesn't really have a case for 03. Kobe wasn't even the best Laker (Shaq was).

Kobe put up 32/5/4/1 on .533 TS%. Duncan put up 28/12/5/1 on .575 TS%. Kobe's defense was poor though. Bowen won a game by himself, and Manu had his best series that year. I don't see how it could be Kobe. Even then, people said he was chucking. And this is peak Duncan. :confusedshrug:

Manu was the best Spur in 05. Duncan has a good case for 07, depending on how you view the Finals (Duncan drawing all the defensive attention, securing Ws with his defense, or Parker abusing the biggest mismatch ever). Deron may have been the best player in the WCF also.

00 Shaq is an obvious choice for sure.
13 LeBron too.

But I do kind of agree with budadiiii. I thought Durant may have been the best player in that Finals series.

Good post.

Since 2000?

Shaq - 2000, 2002

Duncan - 2003, 2005 (The people putting Manu above him or as arguable, are blanking out on basketball being played on both ends.)

Kobe - 2009

LeBron - 2012, 2013, 2014 (Heard TLP say that Durant may have been better. At scoring maybe, but he didn't play-make, pass, rebound, defend, or draw as much attention from the defense as LeBron did. It isn't really arguable.)

Pau and Kobe were basically even in that Utah series

But Pau was the best player in the 1st round against OKC.

Agreed with 09. Kobe had a brilliant Playoff run. Not 2010 (in terms of best player in each series; it was still obviously a brilliant run)

Durant's 2012 Finals was nothing but empty stats. Couldn't help the Thunder frontcourt not get dominated on the glass by Bosh. Couldn't stop LeBron in the paint.

He had 0 impact, yet people always blame Westbrook, just because Durant's scoring stats were still good.

I'm a huge Manu fan and I'd still take Duncan in 05 over him. Manu was even better in the first around against Denver than in the Finals imo. Finals are just more memorable and a bigger stage. Talking about the Spurs without talking about Duncan's defense is like talking about the mid-2000s phoenix Suns high octane offense without mentioning Nash's amazing skills on that end. Even on offense, TD did average 27 ppg / 14 rpg while nearly sweeping the #1 seeded Suns. I'd take 05 TD over prime Amare easily.

2012 LeBron
2003 Duncan
2011 Dirk
2000 shaq

Um, who had a better series' than LeBron in 2013?

I don't see anyone outplaying LeBron over an ENTIRE series from 2012-2014..... Sure, Kawhi was right there with him from game's 3-5, but in game's 1 and 2 he scored NINE POINTS EACH, non factor.... Imagine if LeBron did that.

- And yeah, Kobe was not the best player in the 2010 OKC series... Even the finals were close.

Lmfao at you condescendingly calling him "son" when you you think A) Jordan wasn't the best player in the 93 finals, and/or B) Kemp was in the 93 finals.

And it's clearly not just a typing error on your part, you mention that year twice.

For real. The saddest part about this is that it's not even the first time something like this has happened. The amount of times this dude has said next-level retarded shit that completely exposes his knowledge of the game, leading to him being eviscerated by posters who actually know what they're talking about...and he still parades around with his awkward self-important shtick...straight up comedy act :oldlol:

Nah, I'm talking about the 1993 ECF... Pippen was the MVP of that series.

Jordan shot 40% and 35% outside of game 4 I think it was...

Pippen saved the series with 23/7/4 on 51%, multiple clutch 4th quarters and a superior closeout game (MJ shot 33%).

damn you're acting childish.. Rockets got jobbed in '93 in game 7 against the Sonics, and then ironically they got screwed in the WCF to the Suns, as the Suns received the most FT's in a playoff game EVER (64) making for the Jordan/Barkley matchup... I know just fine what happened those years.
