@BaxterHolmes: .@JerryZgoda reports T-Wolves owner Glen Taylor will present Kobe with ball after KB passes MJ. Video tribute set to play as well.
Wtf. I'm the biggest Kobe fan here but it's not like MJ holds the record lol

Wonder how shitty Karl Malone feels. Dude is a complete afterthought in all of this. When you talk about him in this record chasing shit it's always an obligatory respect thing, but aside from that it's all about guys passing MJ now and then Kareem after that. Obviously there's reasoning behind it all, but still feel bad for the dude.

aside from the no rangz, Malone unlike the other guys never led the league in scoring, not even total points. Had one season of 30ppg, has only five 50+ point games in his career.
so he never really stood out like MJ, Kobe & Kareem

Would've been funny if Memphis stopped the game with a video tribute when Kobe got the most missed shots record :oldlol:
pretty sure wolves owner has no right to stop a game.
also pretty sure Kobe has no interest in focusing on wolves owner in the middle of the game

And especially Wilt, but in reality both wilt and Karl are diminished when talking about all time points. Because passing wilt in the all time scoring list is a real accomplishment, and that is the mark that separates the superstars from the megastars like wilt. Yet all people can talk about is MJ as if the record is his or some shit. MJ would still be behind wilt had wilt been fortunate to play in a league that already Had an 82 game season during his scoring years.

I don't agree with stopping the game at all. Third place is a huge accomplishment, but not something worth stopping the game.

Not only that, but Chamberlain COULD have scored MUCH more in his career. In his 66-67, 67-68, and 68-69 seasons, he basically did what his COACHES asked of him (and yes, it was mostly successful), but even in those years he would occasionally go out and throw up a few huge games (e.g. 52, 53, 53, 58, 60, 66, and 68 point games) just to let everyone know that he still could.
And then, in his 69-70 season, his new COACH asked him to become a scorer again, and he was leading the league in scoring at 32.2 ppg (on a .579 FG%) when he blew out out his knee in the ninth game.
Even after the injury, he would still go out an hang a 30-30 game every so often.
And just watch this footage, taken in the clinching game five of the '72 Finals, when a Chamberlain, with BOTH wrists badly injured, scored 24 points on 10-14 shooting. I think it is pretty clear, that as easily as he was scoring in that game, that he could have had yet another 40 point game.

And, of course, the big one...Chamberlain had to wait FOUR YEARS after High School to play in the NBA. Given the fact that he scored 43 points in his very first NBA game, you can safely assume that he would have probably added at least 8,000+ points to his career totals, had he been able to jump right to the NBA.

No big deal, this has always been done when a star has a career milestone. Jordan received a standing ovation at the Spectrum when he scored 15,000 career points.

You're right, it's not a big deal that it happened. Just unnecessary, IMO.
And standing ovations are great, and classy, and should be expected. Stopping the game for third place just goes too far.

It's okay to give a standing ovation, but to just stop the game in the middle of a 2nd quarter, everyone shaking his hand and he's given the ball like he just retired :oldlol:

He was still a model of consitency and the greatest scoring power forward in NBA history in the regular season, which is the only thing that matters for the list. The reason Jordan matters aside from being a guard who played similar to Kobe is that he's the consensus GOAT and Kareem holds the record. That's it. Malone is stuck in the middle and doesn't make a story. It has little to do with his scoring prowess.
