Lebron went on a low carb diet and lost about forty or fifty pounds.

Unless you are very careful with that kind of regimen, you lose muscle as well as fat.

Most of your muscle mass is in your legs - that's what makes a fast sprinter fast and gives a high jumper air.

so you're saying Lebron and his phisios didn't account for this?

...he lost 10-15lbs which in the world of low body-fat professional sports is extreme as it is, where the **** do you get 40 or 50 :oldlol:

Went from 260-265 down to 250.

40-50 is a stretch...he was about 275-280 coming out the Finals, and dropped to around 250 reports said

and as far as being careful, pretty sure an athlete in his position has adequate advisers on top of his diet plans. the Cavs, Nike, etc wouldn't risk their investment without some inquiry

His hair strands must weigh significantly more than the average person.

10 pounds from his torso/legs, 30-40 pounds from the hair loss

Who reported this? The past half decade he's played at 260-265. 2013 for example he was cited 263 coming into Heat from the offseason. Heaviest reliable account of his weight I've found was in Cleveland prior to the Decision, 270.

Dwight Howard doesn't even weigh 280, Dwight right now is about 270. So I would consider any 280 reports (unless they are offseason/fat, and not playing weight numbers).

For years, LeBron James' listed weight has been a matter of contention in NBA circles. He's currently listed at 250 pounds on the Cleveland Cavaliers' roster, though most observers believe he's played the past few seasons in the 275-280 range. Next season, however, the issue with his listed weight may be that it's too high, as James has shown a considerably slimmed-down physique this summer.

No, you don't lose muscle very often when on a low carb diet because your protein intake goes up. In ketosis your body burns stored fat as energy not muscle. That's why you see guys get so lean when they go on a diet like that. To maintain his weight (if he was 250 lets say) just as a rule of thumb he could consume 1gram of protein per pound of body weight. That's not very hard to do. You can get 24g of protein in a scoop of whey protein powder. If you have two shakes with two scoops of powder in them that'll get you to about 100g right there. If you have 3 shakes that would get you to 150g before eating any real food. He however, has access to a real nutritionist and I'm sure they are quite aware of what his optimal weight is and how to achieve it without losing any muscle mass.

That's pure conjecture and speculation on a journalists part.

"most observers believe he's played the past few seasons in the 275-280 range."

..who are these "most observers"? People off the streets? :lol

Thanks for the link though. As I stated the Heat have cited specific numbers for him coming into seasons. They actually wanted him below his 270 ceiling in Cleveland. He played the past few seasons in the low to mid 260's. I think the writer was just, consciously or otherwise, making the story seem more relevant by throwing out a wider range of numbers. And trying to add an air of mystery, even though with a little bit of research there isn't much of a mystery Lebron and the teams he's played for have discussed his weight pretty much every season he's played.

could definitely be speculation, wouldn't disagree...regardless, the poster claiming 40-50lb is way off even with the inflated numbers from this journalist

You'll lose muscle on any kind of caloric deficit. After the cutting phase, bodybuilders retain just 5% of the muscle they gained during the bulking phase. The percentage will be higher for those who haven't maximized their muscles, but somewhere around 10% for someone like Lebron and probably 25% for someone who just started bulking 1-2 years ago.
