Woj: “the Kings are still in Sacramento, but so is the dysfunction”
http://www.sportsgrid.com/nba/the-7-dumbest-basketball-decisions-kings-owner-vivek-randive-has-made-so-far/
For those too lazy to click the link, it essentially goes...:
- hiring a HC before he hired a GM
- wanting to get JSmoove
- pressuring mgmt to draft Stauskas
- signing that Indian giant for no real reason
- being delusional about expectations this season
- wanting to do 4-on-5 D
- hiring Malone at all, then firing him
Various extra pts in article, radio, elsewhere, etc:
- Vivek knew Malone's style contradicted Vivek's vision...why hire him at all?
- Vivek honestly said in an interview he thought 48-min full court press and 4-on-5 D would work in the NBA b/c it worked for his daughter's kid league
- apparently they really expected Malone to give Royce White minutes if they signed him beyond 10-day contracts
- Vivek thinks since GSW had such quick success, so too could the Kings. A gross oversimplification...
- to be fair, while the article says Vivek pressured mgmt to get Stauskas, Malone suggested getting Stauskas in an another behind-the-scenes video and the Kings did/do need shooters bad, even if it meant drafting a redundant position
- GM D'Alessandro has heavily implied in the past that the Kings aren't looking to build a cohesive team based on any kind of system, but rather just get big name players for the new arena and hope something works. I'm assuming Vivek had a hand in this team-building mindset.
Here's some eye candy of Vivek's daughter for anyone finding this thread uninteresting:
